Do you believe even young children can learn Bible verse, and at how young do you start sharing Christ?
I have taught Sunday School for and then I taught a church preschool. In resent years I have heard many opinions, and had many discussions on this subject. What do you think.
I am impressed most of you are not underestimating children.
Serenity: What if a child decided on their own they wanted to go to church, would you let them. That was me, both my parents don't go, just wondering?

Read to them every day. Find some picture books of the scriptures. If you read to them every day then when they get older it will be a habit. We read the scriptures everyday as a family since the children were infants. We also have family prayer in the morning at lunch and dinner and before they go to bed. It will amaze you what you can learn from the children.

Children have an amazing capacity for learning, I have worked with young children for 7 years, but I don't think religion should forced upon children. They naturally question things but the church discourage questioning, I spent most of my youth in church so I know this is fact. Children should be taught morals through things such as Aesops fables. Why can't people choose religious paths when have matured in both mind and body? A child who is forced into a religion by parents etc isn't going to get the chance to explore other beliefs as many parents would be angry or even disown the child for questioning what they have been taught. I would never force my children into believing in something. We currently go to church because my partner and I are having a church wedding but they are so small that the eldest one plays at the back with toys. But I wouldn't let him go to the sunday school. When he is an adult he can make the decision to believe in what he wants and I would support him if he was happy.

Children learn from the loving, godly atmospehere of church nurseries even as infants. By the age of two, a child can understand the concept of God better than many adults can. So yes absolutely, the sooner the better. If by the age of 8-10 there has been no godly influence in a child's life, then the chances of the world claiming another victim are greatly increased.
Pro 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

Mat 18:3 And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Mat 18:4 Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
Mat 18:5 And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me.

My cousin's five year old daughter can recite Psalms 23 and 100, as well as one verse for every letter of the alphabet. The daughter of a missionary friend of mine started sharing Christ with others when she was five; her younger brother accepted Christ at four years old. It's different with each child.

Using music, a child can learn Bible verses fairly easily. But, the more senses you use, the better they will retain information.
I was learning Bible Verses before I was in Kindergarten.

Well, I think I was learning my first bible verses before I could read. I mean... bullying? "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Nips that right in the bud. I know that they focus on verses for the kids to learn even at 18 months in my church (though the kids don't memorize it of course, they just focus on the meaning.)
As for sharing Christ, I don't feel like anyone should ever be ashamed of their beliefs. So... yeah. I know a little boy who was something like 8 who told a little 6 year old that there was no Jesus. She told him that Jesus existed, and that she believed in Jesus, and basically testified of her belief. I know that when I was 6 or 7 some people asked me to sign a statement that was against my beliefs in order to play in their backyard. When I questioned what they were saying (since... I couldn't read they had to read it to me, so I must have been closer to 6...) and used scripture to back myself up, they got angry and basically marked me in the neighborhood. No matter what I did, in that neighborhood everyone either avoided me or tried to 'save' me. My crime? Not believing in the trinity, something my religion doesn't believe in even though we believe in the Bible and in Christ.
Oddly enough, at 9 I went with some friends who were trying to 'save' me to a bible daycamp and blew them away with my bible knowledge and had to be put in the pre-teen group or it wasn't fair to the others. :P
I think that in order for children to understand a family's religious choices they must understand the religion from an early age. And from the age of talking up, they need to be ready to speak in defense of the family's beliefs. It just gives you a foundation of strength.
Add: Studying something more important?
Did you know that children who are read from the bible every day have higher literacy levels? You can get this from reading other books like Shakespeare, but it certainly doesn't hurt. And did you know that children who read from the bible every day advance in their reading skills? Again, you can get this from other books, but this sort of reading is above their level, and with a parent explaining things, it tends to really boost their literacy. Reading is knowledge, knowledge is power.

Probably little children should learn Bible stories. Of course they can learn verses but I think they woudl get more out of stories that demonstrate Jesus's love for little children and for all good people.
