My cat pees on everything!! I have tried everything to get her to stop! Help?

I have two female cats - one of them is almost 10 years old, and the other is about a year old. Over the years, my older cat would pee on my bed about once a month at random times, and I have no idea why. It's not like I let her get away with it - I would try to gently punish her, but at the same time I never knew if it was on accident and she had no idea why I was mad... you know?

Well anyway, I think that my younger cat got the idea in her head that it is normal to pee on the bed or something, because she has recently decided to do just that. She is litter trained, and has been since we got her, she has two litter boxes, and has access to at least one of them at all times. She started peeing on the bed I think about 3 months ago, and this whole time I thought it was my older cat and have been punishing her for it. :[ It started about once a week, and gradually increased to every day, and now it is multiple times a day. I know it is my young cat now because I have cought her a few times. It is getting to down to the wire for us - we started locking her out of our bedroom at all times, and now... our friend stayed the night last night and slept on the pull-out bed in the living room, and she peed ON him while he was sleeping.

My fiance wants to get rid of her, but I feel like we would be abandoning her - she is a lifetime responsibility, you know? I have tried everything I can think of to try and get her to stop - We have tried yelling, rubbing her nose in the pee, (light) spanking, locking her out, ignoring it and hoping it was just for attention, spraying her with water, new blankets, old blankets, no blankets (she went directly on the mattress)...

She is healthy otherwise, and we just have no idea what is going on! FYI, she also at times will pee in the bathtub, and poop in the sink.

Help!!! I am at my wits end and I really really don't want to have to get rid of her! :[

Update:

It really sucks, because besides that, she is the coolest cat ever. :]

The most common reason for a cat that pees inappropriately is a dirty box (per their standards, not ours). If that's not the case, then the next most common reason is a urinary tract infection, or crystals in the urine. Both of these are very painful for a cat, and they will pee elsewhere (especially soft things) as they associate the box with the pain. It's easily cured with antibiotics from the vet. Take them both to the vet, and they can be quickly checked.

In the meantime, you must treat all areas that the cats have peed with an enzymatic cleaner like Nature's Miracle or Simple Solution. Get a gallon - the trick to using any of these products is that you must saturate the area you wish to clean. Treat, allow to dry, then treat again. It may smell worse while the odors are being absorbed by the cleaner.

hello as she is an old cat she may have a week Balder problem so i would get her looked at by a vet be for you think of getting rid of her as she can be fixed . if this is not the case i would get a spray bottle any evey time she gos near the rooms spay her and keep the doors shut at all times that way she can not get in there to pee on your bed . and as for the peeing and pooping in the tub and sink i would think maybe you might try keeping her in a cat run of a night time that way she can not roam free throw the house of a night time but you may want to put your Arther cat with her that way she want freak out because i have had the same thin happen to me with my old cat so i hope this helps you out

I agree with your fiance, get rid of the cat. No one wants to be in a house were you have cats urinated on the furniture, especially areas where you are sleeping. Since there is cat pee on your mattress, they are always going to smell it and want to pee there. Your only bet may be to get a new mattress and whatever else they have pee'd on and hope for the best. Usually once they start though......they don't stop.

    Good luck.

I've had a cat that did that to me! I think it might have something to do with jealousy since my cat started doing it after my roommate moved in and we got another cat. Yelling, rubbing their noses in it or any other negative reinforcement won't work. They don't understand that kind of punishment. Thats not the answer. Just ask your vet what it might be. I'm going to ask my boss about this on Monday.

Could just be attention seeking? or just laziness like one of mine was, call an animal behavioral Specialist and see what they suggest.
