Is it better to have two cats of the same gender or should I get one male and one female?

Would they get along better if they were opposite genders? I've heard conflicting things from friends.

It really depends on the individual cats. Occasionally adult females can get to squabbling with each other. What are the ages? If you're getting kittens, then they'll just grow up together and be used to each other. If they're adults, as long as you introduce them to each other carefully, they should get along fine.

I have 6 cats, 3 males and 3 females. Everyone gets along the same except for my grouchy oldest female. I don't see any difference in the relationships between the cats of the same gender and different genders.

I have two male cats. When we introduced the second one to the household, one was fixed and one wasn't. They didn't like each other and fought if we let them in the same room. So we got the second cat fixed. After that, they made friends and they are rarely agressive towards each other.

So the gender shouldn't matter if they're fixed but I'd recommend against two intact males.

I had 1 male 1 female. she got pregnant and gave birth to 9 kittens on valentines day. They got fixed after the litter.

Should be fine either way if you spay / neuter them

Cats have personalities as do people. Some get along, some won't no matter what you do or what sex they are. JUST REMEMBER (caps to stress not shouting) to have them fixed.

  • If you want a crap load of kittens then dont well i wouldnt unless you get them fixed

when u get them neutered its also called de-sexing so it really doesnt matter weather they are male or female

get the same sex if you dont plan on getting them altered...
