What should I have prepared when searching for my first job?

Would I need a resume, go do an interview, what sort of things should I prepare for? I am a year over the minimum working age and looking at a job at a restaurant or store.

Entry-level jobs at restaurants or retail stores usually don't require a resume. It's best to go to the place you'd like to apply to and ask for an application from whoever is in charge of hiring, which is most often the manager of the place. Make sure you're well dressed, though; first impressions are always important. Don't wear anything too formal, but nothing too casual either. Fill out your application and return it ASAP. It's important that you hand it in to the manager, rather than a sales associate because your application could get "lost". Again, make sure you're dressed well.

About a week after you've turned in your application, make a follow up call if you haven't been called already, and ask about the status of your application--whether they received it or not.

An interview will be set up either when you call or at another time. Make sure you dress appropriately for the interview, whenever it may be.

Good luck on your job hunt (:

you just have to go to about 20+ places and ask them for an application then return it back when you filled it out.

this is going to take months before you get a job, unless you know someone that can get a job for you.

some places wont call you back, but some places will call you in for an interview.

good luck- the economy is bad and no one is hiring.
