Christians, Do you believe that it does any good to pray for dying or dead person's soul ?

Or do you believe that they have already delivered and determined their own destiny with God?

    Um no.

I don't know why people assume they're saved just by accepting that Jesus is their savior. That's easy, you also have to live a good life.

And all people are sinners, I don't think it would certainly help to pray that God has mercy on their souls.

As a Catholic I also believe in Purgatory, and I pray for the souls in Purgatory that they get to Heaven faster... Once you make it to Purgatory, you know that you're going to Heaven. But I can only imagine what the agony of waiting must feel like, if that was me I'd REALLY want people praying for me.

If a person is pronounced dead that's it their gone and no prayer is going to change anything.

If the person still has breath in their body (lungs) yes prayer would be ok The type or what is prayed is very important and if the person is a christian or not also makes a difference on what you should pray. If a person isn't saved and is dying you wouldn't pray a prayer of dedication or consecration, but you might pray the prayer of intercession praying that God would intervine and keep the person alive as to give him more time to choose life or death. i would share the salvation message with the person along with prayer. But the other their gone. It also makes a difference if they are a relative too or a wife or husband. God looks at the husband and wife as one so if the husband was out of it like in a coma she could pray claiming her husband for the kingdom of God, and praying the blood of Christ on him and visa versa. God respects the decision and rights of all peoples . Its sad when peole live so long and they've never made their peace with God.

Despite what some people believe, you can pray for the dying, and when God directs, the dead too. Let me explain: a friend of mine got into a bad motorcycle accident, and had blood on his brain and his heart. I was crying out to God for his life, and was told his heart had stopped in the emergency room, but they got it started again. He is alive today, and I believe it is because of the prayers of christians that kept him alive. Now, a bible story about Lazarus, who was dead 4 days. The religious people in Israel believed the spirit stayed around the body 3 days before it left, so God waited 4 days before Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead. Now a true life story from a minister who had died, left his body, went down to the Gates of hell, but his mother was praying on the front porch. He came back 3 times, entering into his mouth back into his body. After the 3rd time dying, he gave his life to the Lord, died again, and this time went up to heaven. Jesus told him it wasn't his time, he had a ministry to fulfill. He came back, and lived until he was 87 years old, 70 of which were in ministry. He was also cured of an incurable heart disease at the age of 16, which, by the way, 5 doctors said he would not live past the age of 16 with what he had. One minister had 23 recorded accounts of raising people from the dead, and I know God told us to raise the dead in Matthew 10:8, and in John 14:12 Jesus said we would do greater works than He did, which include raising the dead. We must seek God concerning raising the dead, to know His will and not our own. But when God said all things are possible to him who believes, He means ALL things.

A dying person YES, we can't be sure what happens during death, what the dying can comprehend. Pray with that person out loud. Even if a person lived an entire life of unbelief, but became a believer in the last minutes of life, were able to repent and receive faith...then they are saved.

You can pray for a dead person's soul, but not for the case of their eternity. At the moment of death, their fate is sealed forever. Heaven or Hell.

My husbands grandpa was dying from cancer. My husbands aunt visited grandpa in the hospital and told him "we are praying for you dad" and grandpa replied "I know, they are praying for me on the other side too." That is amazing. I hope he was speaking from a clear mind. Awesome! Something great to look forward to.

I have read that people decide their own destiny and judge themselves. Some cannot forgive themselves and are stuck either in-between Earth and heaven or they like Hitler cannot forgive themselves and they will be in darkness of the abyss for a long time. Some souls can be prayed out of such places and some can be talked to mentally and told to go to the light. That works because I did it.

Your prayers will be answered because you ask, but sometimes the answer is no. Nothing is done that is not for the highest good of the recipient.

May do any good or not but it sure gives you a feeling of having done your duty and the feelings of relief.Every body knows that the dead shall follow their destiny,no matter how much we pray for them. All humans act according to their habits, tendencies and upbringing & beliefs.

I believe that praying for the dying won't hurt anything and it might give them some comfort. After death really makes no difference on where they go. But you can pray that they are received in Heaven and are comforted.

If you know they have given their life to God, then you do not need to pray for their soul. If you no they have not given their life to God, then prayer is necessary. The Bible teaches that love covers a multitude of sins. Does that mean they will go to heaven, only God knows that. In either case prayer could not hurt.

The Bible states in revelations that a certain number of people (I forget the exact number) had their hearts hardened by God from birth because He knew that they would never come to Him. And that these people will have the opportunity to prove their faith by works after the second coming of Christ.

Honestly? I doubt it matters once someone dies, but the truth is I have no clue. So I go ahead and do the prayer. Ultimately, the prayer is more for the person praying than the person being prayed for anyway.
