the assumption is, since cats in the wild live in communal groups and groom each other, she is grooming you.
i believe they are planing on eating us. just trying to figure out how to kill such a large animal and who is going to open the cat food cans after they eat us

She loves you :) ... or she might like the salt from your skin also.
Most often it really is a sign of affection. Another way of showing affection is gently biting on your nose or your face. Also, looking at you and slowly blinking her eyes is a way of saying "I love you." You can respond in the same way, if you want. I do it with my cats all the time.

most cats do this from my experience, and they do grow out of licking your skin somewhat from what i've seen.
although, if they like to lick your hair, too, if you let them, that, they might do forever.
there is some cat-psychology behind it. the same reason they might lick another cat. another reason is the oil/salt/general taste of our skin might appeal to them.

some pets just like to lick. my dog loves to lick me. she only licks people she likes though. my cat licks me whenever i pet him. its because she loves you and she is kissing. she might grow out of it i guess it depends on the kitty some only lick when they are kittens but mine still licks and hes 8 years old now and he licks much less now. it depends because my other dog dosent lick at all.

She might be trying to groom you, I've seen my cats do this to each other. It's a form of affection. Don't be surprised if she nibbles you as well. :D
