My cat passed away this morning. What do I do with her now?

I am not sure of what my options are. I am temporarily living in Virginia and if I am to bury her, would like to have her buried in her/my hometown in Arizona. Cremation is an option but I'm not sure who to ask to do that nor do I know how much it may cost. Any advice would be helpful.

Thank you.

I am sorry for your distress, I know for experience how heart breaking it is to lose a pet companion.

Whilst you make up your mind what to do you need to move your cat into the coldest area you have available.

Now make yourself a cup of tea, sweeten it with sugar and sit back whilst you consider the options.

It is a long way from Virginia to Arizona. How do you normally make the journey? You have to consider how you would transport the body. And how soon you can make the trip. The body would have to be thoroughly chilled and stored in a manner whereby the temperature could not rise (ice packed in a freezer storage box). Traveling by road would take time. You know better than I what the rail options are and I am not sure that you could transport by air - you would need to contact your local airport to find out what their policy is.

If you decide that you would prefer to take the body home for burial what you might consider is having her embalmed. This would help preserve her until you were able to make the journey. I don't know where you would get any information about this procedure but your vet or local funeral home should be able to help.

Phoning the vet or operator services will give you access to information in regard to local cremation centres/services. They in turn can give you the costings for their services.

I hope that this has helped and I wish you luck with whatever decision you decide to take.

I understand how you feel- I lost my cat of 16 years not that long ago.

Strange as it may sound, freezing is an option, depending on if you have a freezer available to you where you are now. Taking her back home would mean an ice chest, and several stops to replenish the ice (cat in plastic bag.) Or- freeze until you can make up your mind.

Or local vet is the contact person for animal cremations. The cost of firing up- or keeping fired up- a crematory oven at a human crematorium would run into a lot more money, I would think.

Personally, the thought of traveling across country with an embalmed animal kind of creeps me out (but I find freezing OK- that's what I did with my cat until the ground thawed enough to bury here.)

Again, you have my sympathy for your loss.

If youre into taxedermy you can get her stuffed, although having a lost pet stuffed might feel a little creepy, I dont think id like it :(

You can keep her in a sealed tin case, she should be fairly well preserved for quite a while, giving you time to bury her at home.

If you want a cremation then you can ask about at cremetoriums. Some should do it for some money. Your vet may also be able to offer some advice.

Look at the local Humane Society or SPCA. You can bring in your cats body and they will take care of the rest. It should run you about $100. to $150. to have your cat cremated. It should take about a week before you can pick up her ashes.

It's never easy losing a pet, and my heart goes out to you. I'm very sorry for your loss.

I think that your best option is to have the body cremated. As far as cost, you would need to contact some vet offices. The costs could vary from place to place.

you will have to call vets who will call at house , to take her away to be cremated, it will cost you , a bit maybe, but what else can you do. cat deserves a bit of respect and a decent buiriel for al the love she gave you which is priceless , you can get another cat, , but it is not her, a small price to pay . for love it gave you

You can put her in the freezer until you decide.
