  • My cat passed away this morning. What do I do with her now?

I am not sure of what my options are. I am temporarily living in Virginia and if I am to bury her, would like to have her buried in her/my hometown in Arizona. Cremation is an option but I'm not sure who to ask to do that nor do I know how much it may cost. Any advice would be helpful.

    Thank you.

  • Clavamox and it's effects...?

    One other question...

I had a suspicion that the anitbiodic called Clavamox has been more harm to my kitty then good. Out of curiosity, has anyone ever experienced any negatives with this drug?

  • What is wrong with these vets? They have NO heart...?

I have delt with 5 vets in the same office.

2 think my kitty can beat this illness, 3 are MORBID and negative and mean, well probably because the keep insisting I am loosing my kitty.

First she was diagnosed with FeLV, then FIP... NOW... she doesn't have either.

However, she does have breathing issues. It is more shallow and fast BUT it has been progressively getting better over the past 4 days. She can only go so far before she rests for a bit and then continues on. However, as of now I am seringe feeding her food and water. She hasn't really been using the restroom and all of this originiated with an ear infection. :0(

Her blood count was 37000 and I guess it should be around 15000. She has had a fever between 103.4 and 104.7 for about 5 days. She has discharge from her nose, clear but it drips when she breathes sometimes. Her third eyelid pretty much won't retract unless I call her name or if something startles her.

They did take an xray. From the side they noticed they couldnt really see the bottom of the lining of her heart well but looking down through the spine there was no trace of anything. One vet said it could be lymphoma, FIP, heart disease or just a collection of her skin. (she is a 20 pounder) ;0)

Anyone ever go through this? Can a cat pull through a bad respiratory infection? Has your vets ever been way off? Have you pulled through when death was the prognosis?

I just don't feel right about the direction they are going in. I am taking her to a holistic vet soon but just need some sort of direction, positivity...

  • how much longer does my cat have?

she was diagnosed with Feline Leukemia but may only be a carrier. She originally had an ear infection but seeing as the FeLV is acting as an immuno difeincy disease, her blod count is high, her fever keeps rising and falling and as of yesterday her breathing has become quicker and more shallow...

2 minutes ago - 4 days left to answer.

    Additional Details

My cat is very sick. She has stopped eating, she will allow me to "force feed" her without throwing it up. I was able to bring her home last night and the vet filled her with fluids to keep her hydrated. Yesterday her breathing became a bit quick and somewhat shallow. The vet said she can't give me a good prognosis. Im still hopeful but I am so sad. She said their may be fluid in her chest or a tumor but won't know without a ultrasound. So, they gave her more anitibiodics and a steroid and sent her home with me again.

I need to know how long? I took her outside to the grass and she layed there for bit but then got up, walked slowly over to it, ate some of the grass, walked back to me, nudged me and then we layed together. I just don't know if she is leaving me or if we can beat this... help.

  • Tonight is an important determinator for my kitty... pls help.?

My cat tested positive for FeLV. Positive on the ELISA and negative on the ISF or whatever that other test is. I sat with her all day at the vet and she ate a TINY bit for me so they let her come home with me tonight to try and get her to eat more. She isn't interested in eating on her own so I am giving her wet Wellness Kitten food on the corners of her mouth every hour or so. She is keeping it down which is FANTASTIC! But... I just don't know if that will be sufficient enough for the vet. The vet has told met that my kitty could end up fighting off her infection (ear) with the strong antibiodics and then be fine as long as she doesn't come into contact with anything else that could make her sick... but Im not aware of how long these turnarounds take place..if she is on track... how long they typically go without eating... any info?

  • I dont understand this feline leukemia...?

My kitty tested positive for feline leukemia and has to undergo a bone marrow test tomorrow to determine. It's severity. We were led to this discovery as she has had an ear infection that wouldn't clear.

The vet says that it can be carried three ways. In reading I see that some cats are effected by the actual disease and get very, very ill. Another form I see talks about being a carrier and not really being effected by it unless you catch something and then it acts as an immune defincency virus... and the third can cause lymphomas..

I don't understand. Which one is the one that causes all the pain, no eating, muscle spasms..etc and which one would be the best for me to hope for?

Im a mess guys. I feel like I am loosing my best friend. This is not just my cat.. she is part of my definition of me. I am 27 and she has been with me since I was about 18. I am so lost... I thought this was an ear infection. Any imput?

  • my kitty tested positive for feline leukemia...?

I finally found out after a month of an endless ear infection why it wouldnt clear up. After having been on fluids all day after becoming dehydrated on an antibiodics, my kitty was looking way better. I was so happy and felt a wave of uplift... then the vet called and told me that she tested positive. She said it is carried in three ways but isn't sure how severe it is until she tests the bone marrow.

I am an absolute mess. This cat has been my companion for 11 years... when I was single she moved around with me. I am now married, across country with my 3 year old... through it all. I am scared, I feel super lost and sad and I can't stop crying thinking about her spending her first night away from home in a cage with an IV. I HOPE TO GOD that it is the form that acts as a "carrier" or that she can fight it off ... I just don't know.

Has anyone ever ever ever been thorugh this? What was the prognosis?

If it was terrible... don't answer. Or at least don't be so graphic. I am just so freaking sad. :*( what's messed up is I don't even know it's severity yet. I just cant imagine...

  • OKAY.. HELP! Cat white blood count 37,000!!!?

I posted another question regarding my 12 yr old being dehydrated over clavamox. Vet called me back said her blood work showed a white blood count of 37000. I am taking her to the ER vet but have to wait for my husband to get home since my three year old is deathly allergic to dogs...

until then, what does that mean?! Why so high? This was supposed to have started as a bacterial ear infection. She is so dehydrated that her clear inner eye lid doesn't all the way retract. I am giving liquids but I know I need to get he there asap. :0( What is going on???

  • Dehydrated cat, how much water is enough...?

I have a sick kitty on my hands under a vets care. She has been on antibiodics for about 6 days. On day 4 she started showing some common side effects.... nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite. I noticed that she stopped drinking and eating yesterday morning and about mid day I began giving her .5 ml of water every 30-hour. I did this until about 10 PM when I think I may have given her too much too quickly. I opened some tuna and she ate, would give her some every 45 mins. (very small amt). Then I gave her her meds in an attempt to do it while she had something in her system. Well, she threw it all up.. and bile. This morning she is taking the water in small doses and didn't throw up after her meds but I am wondering if .5ml every 30 mins is sufficient enough for a 19 pound cat?! I have called the vet but am waiting for a returned phone call while they go over her blood work etc. (MY vet isn't in today, so Im not sure what the hell is going on)

    Thanks guys.

  • Thoughts on when/how to give food/water to kitty...?

Hi guys. Well, last time I was on I was concerned with my 12 year old cats bacterial ear infection. I called the vet that night and took her in the next morning. She cultured the ear, found some bacteria... not as bad though. Took her off the tresaderm and put her on Animax ointment for the inside of her ears and Clavimox for an antibiodic. Her ears seem to be improving BUT she is not drinking, not eating much (this is since Saturday that she went to the vet but only since yesterday that she just bascially quit moving) she has not yet had a bowel movement today and is tearing at the eyes. They are red and she just looks blank/sad. :0( So... I know she needs water. I gave her about .5 mili and a tiny bit of tuna. She took both but I don't want to overwhelm her or make her sick (nauseous)

    With all that said...

has anyone administered these meds before? Did you have some or all of these reactions? Did you administer water/food? How often? What is the reality of what they require? How often do I need to give water/food?

Any info would be helpful. The vet DIDNT WARN ME ABOUT ANY of this.:0(

  • Something is going wrong with my cats ear infection...?

Hi guys. My cat was "diagnosed" with a bacterial ear infection on 7/6/09. I was given Tresaderm and a cleaning solution. I was told to administer the meds 2x's a day and only did so once a day.( scheduling) :0( I kept the ear clean every other day and when I noticed things wern't really improving I asked my neighbor to please come and administer the 2nd dosing. Well, today is going on day 18. She is not that much better. I checked out the med, they talk of having allergies to the meds. Im wondering if maybe the vet was wrong??? My kitty is 13, was weeping at the vet and (she is all white and easily turns pink/red) was excessively red on her ears, nose and whites of her eyes. For this reason she only did a swab of the ear wax and found "lots of bacteria" but never looked into her ear with that magnifying tool. I have also been administering the drops to the other ear as informed but now it is also "irritated" and has a small scab like she has been scratching at it. Im nervous.. the website for the med says don't administer past 1 week. She told me 2 and im allowed a refill!!!! (wth?) Please help... has anyone had issues like this? Do I need a new vet???
