She can be spayed between 6 months and a year old. Usually when dogs are spayed/neutered they are sent home same day as the surgery. If so, your pup will be very groggy and tired that first evening, and just want to sleep. The next day she should be doing much better, though still a little sluggish and stiff. By day 3 they're usually back to normal.

**Make sure that you tell the vet to NOT use ACE (acepromazine) on your boxer before or after surgery (or ever). Acepromazine is a sedative that is still very commonly used by vets, but boxers seem to be extremely sensitive to ACE, causing severe arrhythmia and in many cases death. There is a veterinary warning against using ACE on boxers, however not all vets heed this warning so you must make sure that any vet you take your boxer to will not give ACE to your dog, in any amount.

A boxer is a great breed of dog to have around children. The toughest part to get past is the puppy stage, when young pups have sharp little razor teeth and like to bite things. Always supervise interaction between dog and child, especially until the pup is better trained not to nip. My boxer was not brought up around children -- she really only got to first interact with a toddler when she was a year and a half old. She did absolutely wonderful with the child, I couldn't have been more proud of her.

Something that we did while our puppy was very young, was to condition her to being touched all over. We would touch her belly, touch her feet, poke and prod (not in a teasing manner though), and we made a point to do this every day. We wanted to make sure that once she got older she'd be able to handle any rough-handling from children with no problem, and that there wasn't any certain place on her body that she was uncomfortable having touched. At 2.5 yrs old now she is a dream, I would trust her around any kid.

As for training I recommend using positive reinforcement techniques, never hitting or using physical types of punishment or restraint. Negative training doesn't teach the dog anything, it only frustrates them more and it really brings out the stubbornness in boxers! Reward them for good behavior and they will only want to please you.

Boxers don't require frequent bathing, and they don't get that doggy odor either (one of the many reasons I love them :)). If your boxer ever has an unpleasant odor that isn't resolved with a bath, it is probably due to an underlying health issue, in which case you might want to see the vet about it. Generally though boxers are very clean, the short coat is very easy to care for and keep clean. They do shed but weekly brushing will help minimize dog hair in the house. Feeding a good quality dog food will also help tremendously to cut down on shedding, improve skin/coat health, and minimize odor. Ratings and reviews on dog foods:

It's best to have her spayed at between 4-6 months of age.It doesn't take long, and the dog recovers completely in about 10 days. Boxers are great with kids, and they do not typically have an odor, but a bath once every 6 weeks or so will keep them smelling good and you can wip them down with a damp cloth or baby wipes in between baths.Baby wipes are also great to clean out the ears. Brush the dog a few times a week and keep the nails short. I think a boxer is a good choice for a country where it gets hot,but you have to watch and not exercise them heavily in very hot weather,as pug-nosed breeds can over - heat easily.

As for toilet training, just Google it and you'll find thousands of websites.A crate ( cage) is a great training tool, though, and safe place for the pup when you cannot watch it.

    Good luck with your puppy!

If you are living in an apartment then I would consider a smaller dog, even though you might like the Boxer breed.

Poodles are a good choice because they don't shed, are easy to bathe and don't have any bad odor, so you don't have to bathe them every week.

I have a small rescue dog and I got her spayed at four months old. She went to the clinic in the morning and I picked her up that afternoon. There is an abdominal incision which was closed with internal sutures (they dissolve on their own) and recovery was very quick. In fact, puppies tolerate the surgery much better than older dogs.

If you have small child then I would not advise getting a puppy. Puppies can play very roughly and you might end up with a crying child and being upset with the puppy for acting its age.

i would suggest a dog that does extremely well with kids so a medium dog that is also gentle not loud and abnoxious and is friendly/playful! a medium dog is small enough to be played with while he is young and big enough to be played with when he gets older. i would consider a cocker spaniel or a retiever!

    about the spaying thing...

    - must be six months old

    - the operation usually lasts about 4-5 hours depending on how long the vet wants to keep your dog to ensure she is doing okay after

    AFTER

    - you have to be very gentle with them for they will be really sore and drowsy due to the medicine

    - they might whine a little at random times due to pain from being sore

    - they cant bite there or lick

    - no running around too much or playing with other dogs for the next 2 weeks so that the stitches dont open

    BOXERS

-they are good family dogs so are the other dogs i suggested

-boxers tend to be less active then most dogs

    -all dogs have doggy odor

-give her a bath once every 2-4 weeks with dog shampoo

-dont give her a bath too often because the shampoo isnt good when overused

-i would suggest Savannah or Rocko or Winnie for names

    TOILET TRAINING

    - you may want to get a doggie door

    - to potty train i would suggest taking the puppy out every half hour if she does her business outside reward her with praise, fuss, and a treat

    - as she gets older (6-10 months) you can take her out every hour

    - then you can train her to indicate she want to go outside by either scratching at the door or barking or whining

    >>the best time to spay puppies is when they are 6 months and above. it usually takes 3 days for it to recover and should be kept caged and in a quiet place with the cage covered.

    >>to toilet rain the pup, carry it every 30 minutes and after eating to the place you want it to do its thing then don't let it go out until it did its thing. do this until it is old enough to go there itself.
