An Original Novel Idea????

Whether the idea is original is not up to you to decide, that's the audience's job. All you can do is make sure it's unique, has it's own world and doesn't remind anybody of any other book.

The way around it is to ask yourself questions like: Why else, how else, where else, who else, etc, and don't settle with the first answer. Develop your ideas and characters to the maximum, that's the only way to do it.

Let your imagination off leash and have it terrorise the neighbourhood.

Seems rather Harry Potter-ish.

*edit* Actually, you're asking *us* to help you make it different... It's not coming from you, if we do the work for you. Don't post questions, if you don't want honest answers, because not everyone is going to say, "Wow, great idea!" You will need thick skin.

To answer your question, you have to really think about where you want your story to go, what you want your characters to go through, and then ask yourself: "Has this been done, before?" If you really don't think so, then go ahead... Make sure you have others read it, though, cause maybe *they* have seen something like it, and can give you a heads up... Pay attention to your dreams; I know mine have given me inspiration to my own books, and I incorporated it.
