Why does the US govt allow state-owned foreign firms to drill oil off the coast of Florida but not US firms?

Cuba, China, and Brazil, among others are drilling right at 50 miles offshore, but US firms are not allowed to drill at all. It does not make sense.

Short answer - your socialist guvmint at work.

Our guvmint has long been anti oil. It is an easy scapegoat they can blame many problems on. Mostly problems that guvmint created to start with. Their outlook is somewhat self-defeating. A huge part of the taxes supporting guvmint comes from the oil companies and their customers. Far more than any profits made by the entire industry. Yet they do not want the companies to make any more money than they already do even though it would mean more income from taxes.

The foreign owned companies are not drilling in US waters but in those belonging to Mexico, Cuba, some other Gulf island nation or in international waters. We can't stop them and although they most likely will not 'find' any oil/gas belonging to the US. It still chaps me.

first of each and every of the chinese language should not be drilling off of the Florida coast yet fairly legally off of the Cuban coast in the event that they're slant drilling takes them into an oil field it is legally under Cuban territorial waters then the U. S. has no say in the project by using fact its not our oil. so a procedures as drilling in the ANWR is going except the U. S. comes up with a clean skill coverage that makes extinct the two suburbia and SUV's offering new components of oil to a wasteful society only enables that society to proceed their wasteful procedures jointly as destroying a pristine environment in the approach.

Can you cite a reference where we can look into the details of this?

The only place where I could see this happening is in the Florida Strait. Our Exclusive Economic Zone can not extend the usual 200 miles here, so we would split the 90 mile difference with Cuba. So if Cuba drilled (or leased to others) 5 miles on their side of this line, they would be within 50 miles of the US coast.

Nothing we can really do about this.

These are all States that socialists in government agree with in terms of their political systems, and must be bolstered financially however it can be channeled to them. Besides, Obama's buddy and financial backer Soros is involved in the Brazil deal so that he can have enough on hand for the next election cycle.
