Why be rude to a kid who needs help?

I was astounded when I read some of the responses to this question.

The kid is just asking for a little help.

Why be rude?

I thought Politics was cutthroat, but have found a level of cruelty on this site that astounds me. It comes from all spectrum's of religious beliefs and non beliefs.

I understand ( tho don't agree) with the anger in Politics, but where is all the hate and animosity on this site coming from.

People like being rude because they feel weak and inadequate inside. As I've been practicing tai chi and reading many eastern philosophies, I've realized that most of these cyber tough guys aren't like that in real life. I also work as a telesurveyor. Many of the people I call act like this on the phone. I've learned to let it roll off my back. They're doing this because this is the only way they can get any kind of gratification because they're so ugly on the inside that they don't know any better. It's a compensation factor.

Rudeness is about normal here. Usually from the Christians. I also notice that some of those answers didn't even try to answer the actual question asked but were about something completely different. That's normal here too.

That wasn't really rude. I have seen much worse here. I think a lot of people get annoyed when kids come on here and ask a question that is clearly their homework.

It would help if you singled out what you thought was rude. I do not thing telling a kid to do his own homework rude. Some gave resources others gave opinions. I will say the kid was being lazy. Instead of doing research he was trying to get others to do the work.

The latter answers are a lot more helpful, at least. The former answers are probably from people who just want points. Then again, this IS the internet.

I only saw a couple of what you consider "rude" answers to that question. If you are so easily "astounded," perhaps you need to grow a thicker skin. It gets much, much worse here.

At least the kid owned up to needing homework help; most of them just post questions as if they think no one knows that's what they are doing.

It is a homework question, meaning that the kid should be learning this stuff for himself. If everyone just gives the answers, he is only learning the rewards of being lazy. And life just doesn't work that way.

Telling a kid to do their own research is help. Academic honesty is important.

That kid spelled like some kind of dumbo, they should be doing their own homework, not cheating from the internet.
