Animal Welfare Acts/Laws in U.S?

Please read all the way through before posting links, I know how to use Google, and am asking here for people's opinions.

I'm doing a research paper on the Animal Welfare Act/Law of my choice. Thing is, I can't decide which one I want to research.

So, Y!A, what are some of your favorite, least favorite, ridiculous, outdated, or any law you're familiar with? I'd like to avoid the fur trade (don't want to turn in a soggy paper) as well as BSL and dog fighting (because EVERYONE is doing that).

If you guys can give me some that are off the wall ridiculous that would be great.

Thanks!

Update:

Jesse- I'm in vet tech school, and at this point we've has had the vaccination laws branded to our skulls. I can give a 2 hour lecture on Texas vaccination laws.

I'm definitely looking into Bite Case Laws though.

Rogue- I've been juggling the Puppy mill idea. It's the topic I feel most strongly about, but I doubt I'd be able to write an unbiased paper.

Mandatory spay /neuter laws would also probably be popular.

I suppose if you want to be unique, you could look into mandatory rabies vaccinations and if they really do need to be performed as frequently as many states require them to be. There's a lot of debate about what vaccination schedules are really in the animal's best interest.

Bite laws in different states would also provide a wealth of topics.

Laws regarding age at which a puppy can legally be sold would also provide a lot of interesting topics.

Oh, you're so lucky. For our hot topic papers at my vet tech school, we weren't allowed to do any thing majorly opinionated. Just facts. I did raw feeding verses kibble, because I could still be opinionated with facts, lol.

Bite Laws are something I've looked into. I can't look into them that much, as it makes me want to kill people.

Like the 4 month old golden retriever puppy who was euthanized for biting a boy on the hand. While the boy was in a dog park with the dog, and 6 people reported seeing the boy harrassing the dog by pulling on it's ears and tails.

Another dog park case, where a little girl was running around a dog park unattended (like 3 years old little), when kids under 12 weren't even allowed in the dog park! Some of the bigger dogs decided she was a fun little squeaky toy, got too rough, and killed her. No matter what eye witnesses said about what dogs were involved and what wouldn't, and no matter the fact that the poor little girl never should of been in that dog park, every single dog there that day was euthanized.

In fact, I think that's a great topic. Look at kids in dog parks. I don't feel that ANY little kid should be in a dog park. Supervised or not. A bunch of 90lb dogs running around, hyper, playing, and little kids... not a good mix. I know many dog parks in my areas have rules against kids. But they are not enforced. Look at the other rules pertaining to that. If a kid is in a park when it's not suppose to be, is teasing a dog, and does get bit, how would the laws in your area cover that? For example

Puppy lemon laws would be a start or which states where it is mandatory for your vet to write you a prescription if asked as opposed to states where they don't have to give you a written prescription so it can be filled elsewhere. Given the new ability to check prices & shop on-line that could be a good topic.

You could do something on puppy mills or backyard breeders.

BSL would be my #1 choice to write about if I where doing it.

You should write a paper disproving that STUPID BBC documentary that came out a while back. (it was the one about how pure bred dogs are walking mutations.)

Let me know if you haven't heard of it!
