How do i know that i have broken my ankle?

I was at volleyball practice and me and my teammate both went for the ball in a drill. she knocked me over and i fell directly on top on my ankle and it was all twisted. its been about 14s hours and my ankle is still swollen. there's bruising on the instep. I can put limited amount of pressure on the area where my foot doesn't hurt but it still gives me sharp pain. i can hardly walk at all. Do you think its broken?

Update:

My ankle has swelled up to the size of a lacrosse ball

I know you do not want this answer, but all indications lead me to believe, that there is a possibility that it could be broken. However, it also could be a number of other things:sprained, tendons, ligaments, the foot is complex. So you have only one thing that you can do:get it x-rayed. If you had gone home iced it, elevated it, and still had trouble with weight bearing--only the x-ray can tell you the truth!!

    Good Luck
