How can I keep my cat from tearing up the carpet?
My cat has been taring up my expensive carpet and pulling all the stuff out of it. Is there anything I can put on the carpet that won't harm the carpet or the cat, but keeps the cat away from that spot?

Cats scratch things to keep their claws sharp and a healthy shape. Buy a cat scratcher from a pet shop and place it on top of where your cat has been scratching the carpet. Your cat will have no other option but to use the cat scratcher. After a while you will be able to move the cat scratcher to a different place in the room but make sure that it is allways available for your cat to use.
Please do not declaw your cat. It is not natural for a cat to have no claws! Just trim them to keep them short. This doesn't hurt your cat and is a good way of keeping their claws in healthy condition.

Nails would desire to be checked and clipped weekly for superb effects. and attempt the SoftPaws Nail Caps. additionally you will get sticky paper for the settee and carpet to supply up them from clawing. What length scratching submit? something under 4-5 ft tall with cabinets, and so on isn't used very lots (if in any respect).

If it is an indoor kitteh, the best thing is to declaw it. I have 5 and every one is declawed and very very happy little fur balls with a VERY happy owner (since none of my furniture or curtains are shredded!).
Try getting the cat some sctratching posts. Use cat nip to draw them to them if at first he's not interested. Or if possible lock the cat out of the room when you are not in there...and when you are that is the only time he is allowed in.
Classic punishment: Get a spray bottle and fill it with water...when you catch the cat doing unwanted behaviors, give it a littke squirt.

You can get a sisal scratching post. And you can get a nail clipper. They are very simple and inexpensive ways!
Hope this helps!
PS-please do NOT de claw your cat, It is cruel, inhumane, and not natural. It can cause behavioral problems and a TON of pain for the cat.

If declawing is not the answer, you could try some of the sprays that are available in stores for that purpose.
Or, you could try nail caps. He'll still be able to "scratch" but won't ruin anything.

don't declaw ur cat, thats plain wrong and mean. spray something on it. you can buy this stuff its pretty cheap, it keeps cats from scratchign furniture. Or smack your cat when he/she does it. or spray him/her with a water bottle. works on my cats. they are very well trained. one plays fetch, the other knows shake a paw : )
