7yr old Siamese cat with skin problems/scratching?
My female Siamese cat is high strung and even seems to suffer from anxiety. Every summer for the past two she has gotten a skin condition that makes her scratch so hard she is losing her fur and putting marks on her that bleed and she won't stop scratching.
This year she even chewed an area around her tail to the point she has lost half of her fur and it is like a big scab.
Has anyone else had any type of cat that has experienced this?
I've been sick for two weeks or she would have already been to the vet. I'm taking her next week.
I have a friend whose black cat gets something similar down her spine but she doesn't scratch it like my cat does.
All she does lately is scratch, chew, and wash. Please help because I can tell she is miserable.
What could cause this?
She is an indoor cat and the windows are closed most of the time.

When something similar happened to my male cat who is part Siamese, it turned out to be a food allergy. He is allergic to fish, corn, and wheat. Other common food allergens include chicken and beef. I strongly urge you to talk to your veterinarian about this possibility. I also strongly urge you to not feed your cat any Hill's Prescription Diet foods, as they are not of optimal quality. Learning how to read and understand the ingredients list on cat food will make a huge difference in your cat's long term health. Here is an article that will help you do that: http://www.catfoodguide.com/how-to-read-cat-food-l... and the site also has reviews of various brands of cat food, and other valuable information.
Should this turn out to be your cat's trouble, here is a good article that tells more about food allergies in cats: http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=1+1402&a...

It sounds like an allergy of some sort. My first guess would be a flea bite allergy. Some cats are so sensitive to flea bites that it only takes one bite and they are scratching for weeks. Even indoor cats can be exposed to fleas - we can bring them in on our clothes and shoes from the outdoors, and then they make their way to our cat. My little seal point female is so highly allergic to flea and mite bites that she must be on Revolution year round. Siamese are extremely sensitive and often high strung cats. Something like this really can cause them to become very anxious, which makes the itching and overgrooming worse. Ask the vet about flea medication for her, and of course something to relive the itching (probably a steroid shot).

SOUNDS LIKE SHE MIGHT HAVE AN ALLERGY TO SOMETHING. MY CAT GETS THE SAME THING AND SHE HAS TO TAKE A LIQUID MED CALLED "DERMA CAPS" EVERYDAY AND A ANTIBIOTIC. THEY SAID SHE JUST HAS ALLERGIES TO STUFF LIKE FLEAS AND POLLEN. MIGHT BE WORTH MENTIONING TO THE VET!
