is there something wrong with my cat?

Ever since he was born (we owned his mother) my cat has always hissed, not as a sign of anger, but to show his desire for attention. He will hiss at you, then wind his way around your legs, or jump up on the couch beside you and show affection (ie kneading my leg, or nudging my hand to be pet) Someone said to me this was a sign of mental or neurological issues in my cat, I thought he was just unique... is my Cat sick? (He is now 2.5 years old) Thanks

I have a cat who will meow for attention, one who will nip me if I ignore him, one who will wind around my legs, and one who will nudge under my hand to get patted. The kneading is a left over habit from getting the mama cat's milk to let down. None of these things is a big deal, and all of them together is also not a big deal. If you are still worried, check with your vet next time your kitty has a check up.

It could be a neurological issue, but you've had him for 2.5 years now. If it was too serious, he wouldn't have lived this long. A friend of mine has a cat that has brain damage too. It was born like that. It doesn't play or anything. It just sits around staring into space. And it will only eat one kind of food. But he takes good care of it and loves it, so it is happy. If your cat doesn't bother you with his hissing, then don't worry about it. If it does bother you, take him to the vet and see if their is anything they can do.

he may have a mental issue but there would be nothing you can do about it. My cat growls and kinda hisses when ever he eats. I guess to him it is purring. Don't worry about it but make sure you tell other people when they come to visit as it may be scary to them.

Does he meow? Maybe the hissing is replacing the meowing? I'd guess that if he's otherwise normal that this is just a quirk.

That sounds so cute! And kinda funny. Bet is scares people at first (who probably think they are about to be bit). I def. recommend mentioning this to your vet, but I wouldn't worry if he's always done it. You have obviously adapted to understand him. Just love him. =)

I'm not sure, but he sounds OK. Regardless, I'd ask the vet just to be sure.
