Spiritually Speaking: What kind of pain killer shall I ask for?
I'm having surgery in the morning. They're going to put me out. What kind of pain killer shall I ask them to use for when I wake up? Of course, I want the one that will put me closes to heaven.
Only one problem: Morphine makes me barf.
CLOSEST to heaven, that is...
Thanks everybody for your support. As a recovering alcoholic, I won't fill any prescriptions when I leave the hospital, but I understand that this surgery (chest tube, collapse a lung, take a biopsy, etc.) is fairly painful and uncomfortable for a couple of days, and I'll be in 2 or 3 days.

OxyContin is a good one but highly unlikely to receive as it is used for severe and long term pain.
Demerol is good if they will give it to you. Oxycodone/Percocete, Lortab/Vicodin are all nice in a decent dosage.

(Any of these drugs can make you sick to your stomach)
I hope everything with your surgery goes well.

You are having surgery in the morning -- you should have already had this conversation with your Dr. He should already have your medical history to know what you are able to take. Mostly they inform You ,you don't ask them.
Years ago I had a C-section, I was given Tylenol 3 the first night. Had never had it before / good for the discomfort but made me dream really weird. Asked about it the next day and was told it was the normal medication. Told them my reaction to it and found it was a common side-affect. I told them I wouldn't take it anymore -- turns out I didn't need pain meds that night.

From a spiritual perspective, you should ask for NO pain medication. Suffering builds character, and many faiths see personal pain as a means to becoming more spiritual.
Suck it up and become closer to God.

I will pray for you. God watch over you. St. Raphael, the Archangel is the Patron Saint of Healing. I will pray he heals you and keeps you from pain. God Bless you tonight. Good luck.

Well, it depends on what your religion is. If you are American Indian, Peyote is a good fit.

Heroin. It may be hard to get, but it doesn't hurt to ask.
