Why are the words of Jesus red in Bible's but not God's words ?

Why do Bibles have the words of Jesus in red as in to signify the importance of them but the word's of God are not red ? (God speaks alot in the OT while only makes a brief cameo in the NT when He says "This is my son in whom i am pleased"

Update:

nobody answ4ered my question. people just kept saying "jesus IS god" , which is not true, but even if it was, if people claim he WAS YHWH, then shouldnt YHWH's words also be in red ?

Update 2:

The whole Law was given by God himself with an audible voice that all of Israel heard. So all of you are lying with that "hand me down" and "never heard his voice as direct as with jesus"

Update 3:

Actually the Bible never says that denying Jesus is God, is the spirit of antichrist. so no, i didnt "know" that since it never says in the Bible , however the verse you most likely meant to reference is the one that says that he denies jesus came in the flesh (was a human) is antichrist . its fairly easy to prove Jesus isnt God nor that he even claimed to be , but thats regardless of the point. the point is that christians dont think Jesus is the God of the OT either, and even worse, they think Jesus is more powerful and better than the God of the OT and this (highlighting "jesus" words to signify superiority to other words, while God's words are not highlighted ) is one of many indicators that christians believe this. Another obvious clue that they believe this is that they need their god Jesus to confirm something YHWH already said in the OT . For example . YHWH says that teh sabbath is forever, but christians say they dont have to keep it because their god Jesus didnt re-confirm it

Update 4:

Yesw, colossians says that God was in Jesus, but teh Bible also says that God was in the apostles. so were they God ? well according to Jesus yes, since Jesus quoted a verse that says that he that recieves teh word of God is a God . This may seem problematic to many people , but its not problematic at all as soon as you realize that the word God doesnt even exist in the Bible . There is no word that means "The Most High Being , creator of all" . The word that results in "God" is Elohim , which means mighty judges.

This question is more than just black-and-white - or red-and-white, as the case may be.

In the Old Testament days there was no question that God was who he said that he was. So there was no need to highlight his words, because it was obvious that it was God who was speaking.

When Jesus came on the scene, though, there was some doubt that he was who he claimed to be. There still is, really. And that doubt exists EVEN IN THE CHURCH itself.

The book of Isaiah cannot possibly be prophecy about Jesus Christ - one because prophets did not prophesy that far into the future, but more importantly because the very language of the book makes it clear that the "prophecy" was at most SIXTY years into the (Isaiah's) future - not the six HUNDRED or so that would have been necessary until Jesus came on the scene.

So how does the Church combat this obvious truth? It "interprets" Isaiah's words to mean something other than what they say, in a futile effort to give Jesus' words credibility.

Because of this, Jesus' words need to be in red as further - this time VISUAL - "proof" that he was he who claimed that he was.

To this I would ask: Who are you trying to convince - non-believers, or YOURSELVES?

    Jesus Words In Red

Why are only certain words in red? Probably few Bible readers have ever wondered why and when the red letter edition came about. One source gives credit to Louis Klopsch, the first editor of the Christian Herald.(see footnote1) While writing an editorial for the magazine he thought about the words of Jesus recorded in Luke 22:20, "This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you." He thought it would be appropriate to show in blood red the words Jesus spoke. The November 1901 issue of the Christian Herald ran an advertisement for his red letter Bibles. In them the only words printed in red were those regarded as spoken by Christ while on the earth. Since then, other publishers have expanded this feature to show in red all the words directly spoken by Jesus. This explains why some red letter editions have Acts 18:9,10 in black while others have it in red!

There is nothing wrong with a red letter Bible as long as the reader remembers the words in black are just as important as the ones in red. There is no contradiction between what Jesus personally said and what Peter, James or John recorded. We should always study the gospel according to Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. However, disregarding the rest of the New Testament because "Jesus didn't say it," is failing to heed all of Christ's will. Study all that Jesus said and be obedient to it.

In the Old Testament it was Angels speaking for God. Makes sense really. Why have Gabriel and his crew if they weren't going to deliver messages?

Did a word study twenty years ago. Looked up all the places where "Angel(s)" was used. Initially people thought they were talking to God but later referred to them as Angels.

Still, red letters can help sort out the important from the opinions and historical records.

People say every single word in the Bible is God breathed or inspired by God. Nonsense! When it says that soldiers decided to give 10% of the spoils to Melchizedek, was it God's idea? No. It says men decided. How about, No prophesy of the scriptures is for private interpretation. Prophesy is speaking for God. "prophesy of the scriptures" makes a distinction between the two. Prophesies are in the scriptures but not all scripture is prophetic.

    Jesus' words are less hand-me-down.

Let's begin with the fact that not all Bibles have the words of Jesus in red.

With that established, several years ago, some Bible publisher thought it would be a good idea to print the words of Jesus in red, just to make them stand out from the other words in the Bible.

I do not know why they decided the words of Jesus should be in red, but not the other words of God.

In any event, other publishers thought that putting the words of Jesus in red was a good idea, and they began to do the same.

Now, because so many Bible publishers print Jesus' words in red, it has become somewhat of a tradition.

    I hope this helps you.

    Go in peace.

And, always remember: -- Jesus loves you!!

    Sincerely,

    Uncle Floyd

Jesus is God and the Bible contains the truth.

It would be difficult to explain everything in a short answer.

I would suggest you visit the below website. You will get all the answers, for the below questions and many more.

    1) Did Jesus really exist?

    2) Is Jesus God?

3)Why should I believe that the Bible is accurate, or the word of God?

    4) What is the Holy Trinity?

5)What is so special about Jesus? Why cant I just view him as an ordinary man or a teacher or a prophet? Why should I see him as God?

  • Extremely good point. Seeing as how Christians believe God and Jesus are one and the same then why isn't the entire Bible in red letters since it is the word of God?

You could use a hi liter if it makes you feel better...you may want to hi lite the words of the Holy Spirit as well...that may be the whole Bible though, quite literally speaking. Red for Jesus, Yellow for YHWH< and light blue for the rest. Good luck.

There is a version out that has almost every line of the Bible hilited a different color, to follow themes through the bible. Quite nice, but a bit hard on the eyes.

Ps...do you know that denying that Jesus is God is the spirit of antichrist? Just a thought...

It is just an editing tool used to sell Bibles. Most Christians fully believe in the OT and that God spoke to people (some Bibles do have these in red ink), however, the NT is what Christianity is based off and the Head of the Church is Jesus Christ and thus his words are in red to show that they are of great significance to Christians. It has nothing to do with belief of God or Jesus being God (though he is God). It is all about selling Bibles by emphasizing the words of Christ.

Jesus is mentioned several times in the OT and was most likely the voice that spoke to Moses out of the burning bush. The many references of Christ in the OT are called Theopany. This was the priest of Salem - Melchizedek, the three men that appeared to Abraham, the one that wrestled Jacob, the voice out of the burning bush, the fourth man in the fire of Daniel's 3 men being thrown in the firey furnace, etc. Jesus is the same God of the OT. The word El means God or Supreme Judge, the word Elhoim is the plural of El like you said. This points to the Trinity and Jesus being part of the Trinity. He was submissive to God the Father in order to show us the way we are to live otherwise he is one with the Father, co-equal of praise, glory, and majesty.

Why do Bibles have the words of Jesus in red as in to signify the importance of them but the word's of God are not red ?

We have the Word of God Translated now into every language on the earth!

We have several English Versions to help people the KJV + which is the red letter bible is only one of them

I have a software program that has all of the bible versions and it has a feature that allows me to compare one verse in all versions. I cannot find any errors.

I spend most of my free time studying the Bible because I have come to an appreciation of God and His Son and the help with everything Big and Small. The issues of life are all answered all ways with different perspectives.

"This is my son in whom i am pleased"

The New Testament is about Jesus Christ !

The Subject is Jesus as God !

We now have a new dispensation !

Since the majority of the Jews rejected Jesus!

God has went on to present Salvation to the Gentiles (everyone not a Jew)

When that dispensation is completed then we will go on to the Kingdom of God.

This subjects are very interesting I suggest you get to know Jesus by reading His Word and Meditating on it.

Ask Him to show himself to you He will!
