Serious question. Should I reject what made me believe the Bible and become a Jehovah's Witness?
I read the Bible on my own. I was surprised that it offered prophecy as proof. So I thought I could falsify it by showing the prophecies to be untrue.
But it turned out that they are all true. And the ones that convinced me are the modern ones that are unquestionably manifested in our time. Things you can go visit and touch.
Examples
Ezekiel gave the exact date of the rebirth of Israel on the day of Pentecost / Seven Sevens in 1948.
http://www.hebroots.org/hebrootsarchive/9808/9808_...
It happened immediately after Ezekiel 37s "Valley of dry bones" which turned out to be the Holocaust. Literal bones literal rebirth.
The 1260 day disgusting thing turned out to be the Dome of the Rock, in the literal Holy Place which is the same Holy Place where Abraham went to sacrifice Isaac, and where Solomon built a temple, and has never been changed. It was set up in the Court of the Gentiles 688 and Israel returned in 1948. Count them. 1260.

Now Israel is the prophesied stumbling block, Jerusalem a cup of trembling. Just turn on the news and see.
The nations surrounding Israel are prophesied to be saying "Death to Israel". Coincidentally, that is what they are saying.
These proofs go on and on.
To be a Jehovah's Witness, I'd have to ignore all this (meaning Ezekiel failed as a prophet and is false) and believe in an invisible coming in 1914, based off of pyramid measurements and a historically unconfirmable date of 607 BC.
I'd have to believe in "spiritual Israel", and think that prophecies such as Tabernacles applies to me and not Jesus.
I'd have to believe that the Watchtower is not a prophet, even though they have claimed to be (April 1 1972), and their prophecies are not failures but only misconstrued suggestions from overzealous members.
I'd have to accept that the Watchtower is God's communication channel, but sometimes gives fallible and incorrect communications which need new light later to clear it up. But I still have to go to them for salvation and spiritual food at the right time.
etc...
Do you see what I'm saying?
If I'm truly honest hearted, is becoming a Jehovah's Witness a viable option for me?
linda
thanks. no not looking for a method. just truth

either the prophecies speak to you or they don't. once i could see them and understand, you can google it for an actual historical event. then you go to the next in the sequence and confirm that too.
turns out that what i read is what many others have deciphered too.
and as i can't post several years research in a ya q, links will suffice.
yep i realise that pyramids are now stale food. yet that's how the 1914 date (still fresh) came about.
ad hominem aside, i've been studying with witnesses for nearly 2 years., from the kh in napier new zealand. you might want to check with them before you accuse me of lying. ask i will send you their names. one is an elder. and i have had some kind of overseer come for several studies too.

if you have a better interpretation of ezekiel please let me hear it.
yep the fig tree is cursed to never again bear fruit. but when it is in leaf, all these things will be fulfilled. this describes israel today. or do you say that you are the tree not bearing fruit?
do you think your invisible presence can trump a physical nation we see every day in the news?

done this q. watchtower says jehovah is only saviour to israel, jesus is only saviour to christians. 2 different saviours for 2 different times.
i'd say only one saviour, god is that one saviour, god in the flesh is still that one saviour. to me it harmonises better.
porcelain
yes i've been over the 607 argument. here's a simpler one.
zec 1:7, 12. when does history and the watchtower (paradise restored) say this occurred? 519. google it and it's when nebu started the seige. this makes 70 years begin in 589.
jeremiah too works out to 536/7. shall i post another link to explain all this? or shall we just say that i hold to the bible testimony and can reconcile it with history, unlike the lone jws who say 607.
again, i don't believe ezekiel to be false. so i hold to an interpretation which makes him true, and you do not.
myro
your johnny come lately is the other doctrine. if not, show me it historically going back to the apostles and jesus. but i know you cannot. done that q.
debbie
prove all things, hold fast to that which is true.

such as? really haven't heard any from the watchtower that were true. abraham never resurrected and lived at beth sarim.
thanks ed. good idea. but i don't make up my own reasons when the bible tells me these things already.
2 corinth 13:5. is jesus in you?
(and, as you must say when dealing with jws, there is no "union" in that sentence, nor any reason in the greek to insert it there. i've got your interlinear)

To be a Jehovah's Witness you need to respect the bible instead of man's interpretations (your spam links). Ezekiel has not "failed as a prophet and is not false" like you said. In fact Ezekiel is a great prophet of God. It's just that you decided to examine a false source in your search for truth.
We believe the bible over man's word any day.
For instance, you say that 607 is unconfirmed.... but you are wrong
You see, by taking God's words as truth you would know that 607 was the exact year.
Let me explain...
The date of 539 B.C.E. for the fall of Babylon can be arrived at not only by Ptolemy’s canon but by other sources as well. The historian Diodorus, as well as Africanus and Eusebius, shows that Cyrus’ first year as king of Persia corresponded to Olympiad 55, year 1 (560/559 B.C.E.), while Cyrus’ last year is placed at Olympiad 62, year 2 (531/530 B.C.E.). Cuneiform tablets give Cyrus a rule of nine years over Babylon, which would therefore substantiate the year 539 as the date of his conquest of Babylon.—Handbook of Biblical Chronology, by Jack Finegan, 1964, pp. 112, 168-170; Babylonian Chronology, 626 B.C.–A.D. 75, p. 14
A number of important Biblical events took place during the Persian period: the fall of Babylon, followed by Cyrus’ release of the Jews and the end of the 70-year desolation of Judah; the reconstruction of the temple at Jerusalem, completed “in the sixth year of the reign of Darius [I, Persian]”; and the rebuilding of Jerusalem’s walls by Nehemiah, according to the decree given in the 20th year of Artaxerxes Longimanus.
2Chronicles 36:20-23
Ezra 3:8-10
Ezra 4:23, 24
Ezra 6:14, 15
Nehemiah 2:1, 7, 8.
Now, Jehovah tells us that the Jews were to exiled for 70 years
Jeremiah 25:8-11
Daniel 9:2
2 Chronicles 36:20,21
Jerusalem came under final siege in Zedekiah’s 9th year (609 B.C.E.), and the city fell in his 11th year (607 B.C.E.), corresponding to Nebuchadnezzar’s 19th year of actual rule (counting from his accession year in 625 B.C.E.). (2 Kings 25:1-8) In the fifth month of that year (the month of Ab, corresponding to parts of July and August) the city was set afire, the walls were pulled down, and the majority of the people were led off into exile. However, “some of the lowly people of the land” were allowed to remain, and these did so until the assassination of Gedaliah, Nebuchadnezzar’s appointee, whereupon they fled into Egypt, finally leaving Judah completely desolate. (2 Kings 25:9-12, 22-26) This was in the seventh month, Ethanim (or Tishri, corresponding to parts of September and October).
Hence the count of the 70 years of desolation must have begun about October 1, 607 B.C.E., ending in 537 B.C.E. It was in the seventh month of this latter year that the first repatriated Jews arrived back in Judah, exactly 70 years from the start of the full desolation of the land.
2Chronicles 36:21-23
Ezra 3:1.
537 B.C.E. to 607 B.C.E. = 70 years
Because we know Jehovah's word to be true over man's word.... we know for definite that the year is 607 B.C.E
Anyone who respects their bible as God's word would believe the same

I studied with the Witnesses for 2 years, so I learned a bit about them. The biggest difference is that they don't believe in a trinity. God is the Father, Jesus is God's first creation (son) and the Holy Spirit is God's active force. Jehovah does not personally direct the Witnesses. They have the Watch Tower Society in NY, the overseers for each district, and the bodies of elders at each congregation. They take the Bible literally, "go out and make disciples of all people". You don't have to believe, they just have to give you the opportunity to hear and reject if you wish. I left because I stopped believing in a theist religion, but they were some of the nicest, kindest people I've ever met.

Which ever route you choose, God will love you dearly. All the old scriptures are difficult to
interpret and everybody wants to be sure that they have THE correct understanding.
No one I have met has all the answers. Most have more superstition than spirituality.
Jesus taught 2 commandments. Love God and Love your neighbor as your self.
Follow those two rules and talk with God every chance you get and all the old
religious history books won't matter a bit.
If you love your fellow man - you will not harm him in any way. It is that easy.

Instead of getting into a debate with you on prophecy I am going to let you know what helps me to hold fast to what Jehovah wants. Jehovah has imperfect humans running his organization on earth. This means that he trust them and will correct them if needed. It might seem long when he does this, but only long to us not to him. Remember 1000 years is but a day. So, If I do not agree with something or if something stumbles me I go back to my default questions.
"Which organization has the most love among all it's members?"
"Which one has peace?"
"Which one is the most organized and is learning the same things at the same time?"
No matter where I go in the world I can always be prepared for my meetings with Jehovah's people.
When only one organization falls into all of those categories I know it has Gods backing and know that either my thinking or theirs will be corrected in time. It might not be till the new system that those corrections be made, but do I want to risk my relationship and chance at paradise life because I don't agree with something?
My recommendation is that you come up with your own default questions. Questions that tell you beyond a shadow of a doubt who God's people are. Then when you have questions that come up that you cannot find the answer to or that test your faith, ask your self those questions.
Don't let Satan devour you! Slap him in the face with the strength you draw from Jehovah's goodness.

Everything that Jehovah's Witnesses believe and teach is from the Bible so I don't see how you would feel the need to reject what the Bible clearly shows.
"Ezekiel gave the exact date of the rebirth of Israel on the day of Pentecost / Seven Sevens in 1948
http://www.hebroots.org/hebrootsarchive/%E2%80%A6%...
Yet the site that you give is not found in the Bible is it?
In fact none of what you believe as listed above is found in the Bible but are someone's interpretation of what they think Ezekiel means.

Not Ezekiel is a false prophet, your interpretation of the prophecy is. And here's the reason:
(Mat. 21:43) This is why I say to YOU, The kingdom of God will be taken from YOU and be given to a nation producing its fruits.
The Jews aren't God's choosen people. He discarded them in 33 c. e. because of their decision not to accept and follow the Messiah. They wanted to keep their own righteousness, and so they want today. God doesn't work with Israel and the Jews since the year 33 c. e.
A new "nation" came into existence - the Christian congregation of the 1st century.
(Acts 11:26) and it was first in Antioch that the disciples were by divine providence called Christians.
Today there's only 1 religious group that understands the Bible and keeps God's commandments in wholeness: Jehovah's Witnesses. They don't remove God's devine Name out of their Bibles - as many others do. They support their teachings with Bible scriptures. They follow Jesus, not men.
You need to check out the truth of all of my assertions. ;-)

You can sit on the fence thinking or get into action.
By the way the fence belongs to Satan.
Anyone who understands what is being taught to him is fortunate in that God is calling him.
If you never understand what is being taught then it is not being revealed to you at this time.
You need to be childlike as Jesus said.....in that you are in awe of Jesus and all that he accomplished for us.
Study with Jehovah's Witnesses and they will show you from the bible the things important for salvation.
Any excess is to get you off the road leading to life.
Stick to the truth and you will find yourself in paradise.

You just sound really confused. Your first statement "I read the bible on my own" contradicts everything else you say, because there is no way that you could come up with everything you say by reading the Bible on your own. Since you even give links to where you get this stuff from and make references to "pyramid measurements" , which such beliefs are nearly a hundred years out of date, then you neither just "read the Bible on my own" , nor have you asked Jehovah's Witnesses themselves what they believe. Why do you have to lie to explain or prove your beliefs?
- cheeno_guyLv 41 decade ago
If you were truly honest hearted? Yes, but that doesn't describe you. You are misled by Christendom. Abraham was dwelling in the land of the Philistines which at that time did not include Jerusalem, which at the time was known as Salem. The place where Issac was buried was called Jehovahjireh by Moses. Why would he not refer to it as Salem. You enjoy your websites, I will stick with Bible facts and the Faithful and Discreet slave that Jesus appointed over all his earthly belongings.

You talk as though it is up to you entirely.............
(John 6:43-45) In answer Jesus said to them: “Stop murmuring among yourselves. 44 No man can come to me unless the Father, who sent me, draws him; and I will resurrect him in the last day. 45 It is written in the Prophets, ‘And they will all be taught by Jehovah.’ Everyone that has heard from the Father and has learned comes to me.
(Isaiah 43:5-11) 5 “Do not be afraid, for I am with you. From the sunrising I shall bring your seed, and from the sunset I shall collect you together. 6 I shall say to the north, ‘Give up!’ and to the south, ‘Do not keep back. Bring my sons from far off, and my daughters from the extremity of the earth, 7 everyone that is called by my name and that I have created for my own glory, that I have formed, yes, that I have made.’ 8 “Bring forth a people blind though eyes themselves exist, and the ones deaf though they have ears. 9 Let the nations all be collected together at one place, and let national groups be gathered together. Who is there among them that can tell this? Or can they cause us to hear even the first things? Let them furnish their witnesses, that they may be declared righteous, or let them hear and say, ‘It is the truth!’” 10 “YOU are my witnesses,” is the utterance of Jehovah, “even my servant whom I have chosen, in order that YOU may know and have faith in me, and that YOU may understand that I am the same One. Before me there was no God formed, and after me there continued to be none. 11 I—I am Jehovah, and besides me there is no savior.”

"If any man teaches other doctrine and does not assent to healthful words, those of our Lord Jesus Christ, nor to the teaching that accords with godly devotion, 4 he is puffed up [with PRIDE], not understanding ANYTHING, but being MENTALLY DISEASED over questionings and DEBATES about words. From these things spring envy, strife, abusive speeches, wicked suspicions, 5 violent disputes about trifles on the part of men CORRUPTED IN MIND and DESPOILED OF THE TRUTH, thinking that godly devotion is a means of gain."
