Anime with strong female Leads!?

I really want an anime with a strong female lead. Bascailly the female as THE main character or a main character. Could you suggest some that aren't focused on a ton of romance?

Seen:

Shaukugan no Shana

Kaze No Stigma

Ouran

and a bunch of others, but they aren't related to this question...

Update:

Also seen The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

Update 2:

Haha! Ouran doesn't really have a plot at all. That's true. It's actually a pretty annoying anime. But it's good for a laugh.

I would suggest you to watch skip beat!I love kyoko the female lead character because she changes her appearance and joins the entertainment world just to take revenge against sho fuwa...

you should also watch special a..Hikari is so cool..she always compete with kei in academics and sports to be in the first place..

other than those anime..I think you can also try to watch pumpkin scissors, gurren lagaan, nodame cantabile,fate/stay night,slayers,pretear,sugar2 rune, kamikaze kaitou jeanne

'Hyakko' is right up your ally, the only problem is that it doesn't have much of a plot (but neither does Ouran so you'll probably like it)

'Kino's Journey' has a strong-willed female lead but she's also an adolescent

'Paprika' & 'Perfect Blue' are two really great movies, both with strong female leads

'Higurashi' is mostly female main characters (the second season has a female lead but the first is scattered stories with no one as a main character) but is pretty violence heavy so it might not be your style.

'Karin' & 'Toradora' are two GREAT animes with unique stories, but they are both a little love heavy (Toradora for more-so than Karin)

'Grenadier' MIGHT be your style (it's the female equivalent of trigun if that means anything to you)

'Nana' focuses on two pretty good female leads but does have mild romance

'Black Lagoon' has a female main character but is violence heavy and might not be your kinda jazz

    Shana? Really?

Okay how about Serei no Moribtio. It'ss centered around the latest employment of Balsa, a wandering female spearwielder and martial artist. When Chagum, the second son of the current emperor, suddenly becomes possessed by what the imperial sages call a 'water demon', the emperor finds little choice but to have the demon destroyed by killing Chagum. To protect the young prince, the empress secretly hires Balsa to 'kidnap' the prince and thus keep him safe from the reprisals of the court.

    -Kino's Journey

    -Madax

Chrno Crusade (or Chrono Crusade) > A good anime that revolves around a teenage girl (main character) & a demon. It has romance, but it is not the main issue in the storyline. I was very skeptical of watching this series, but I gave it a shot and ended up loving it. It is def. in my top fav. 5 animes. A lot of action and comedy. Great animation!

Inuyasha >I know it has romance, but right when you said a "main" lead for a female, I instantly thought of this anime. As you may already know, there's a lot of action & some comedy. This is the same for Full Metal Panic.

Cardcaptor Sakura > Pretty kiddy, but interesting & centers around a girl.

Bleach >has some main female characters, but mainly centers around a guy.

Vampire Knight (guilty second season)> Mainly about Yuki, a young girl who serves as a guardian for a school that separates vampires and normal high school students. Mainly consists of drama and a romance triangle though. I do recommend this anime, just because it starts off really good (interesting story) and has some great animation. However, the ending just blows (totally differs from the manga).

Fate/Stay Night> I wouldn't recommend this anime, but many people like it & gave it a good rating. I got bored of it fast. I gave it a shot though. I even bought the first 2 dvds, but I'm telling you, I don't see why people like this anime. For a magical story, it sure didn't capture me.

    Ghost in the Shell.

Blood+ > Vampires in it. Mainly revolves around a vampire girl & the battle between her & her sister (plus all the vampire monsters they create). Graphic, yet interesting storyline. Has romance, but it isn't the center of the anime. Lots of action, drama, and seriousness/darkness.

Mai Hime > lots of girl characters. Action/fantasy.

Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit >Mainly revolves around a female warrior who travels around & protects a young boy, who is really a prince.

Spice & Wolf> A tad boring, some romance, but it does revolve around a wolf diety and her merchant companion.

Kiddy Grade> Haven't really seen it, but I always knew it revolved around a girl, and her companions. Def. has action/adventure and comedy.

Zero no Tsukaima: Princess no Rondo >comedy, fantasy, romance.

An obvious one that is about a main girl character is Sailor Moon (S, R, etc.)

    Elfen Lied (haven't seen it) >Drama - Horror - Mature - Romance - Gore - Science-Fiction

Gate Keepers 21 >2 main girls. Story revolves around them & a few others who are known as "gate keepers"-those who have special powers/abilities. Careful when searching this anime though. There are a lot of animes called "gate keepers." I've only seen one series revolving around 2 high school students/girls. 1 Girl has the gate of flight, the other can tap into many "gates" (though her cell phones), but her main power is that of wind.

Excel Saga> a very wacky and confusing anime.

& just because you liked Kaze no Stigma, you may like Zero no Tsukaima: Futatsuki no Kishi and/or Elemental Gelade (both are comedy, fantasy/adventure, and romance).

    Hope this helps!
