Why does my cat meow/yell in the bathroom at midnight every night?

This has been happening for over a week now. It's not normal late night behavior- both my cats get their fun late night/nocturnal playtime in sometimes, streaking through the house chasing each other.

This is different. One of my cats goes into the bathroom, either sits on my bathmat, or lately in the tub/shower staring obsessively at the back tile of the shower and meows hysterically and frantically. If I move her she goes back. If I close the door but don't close it all the way she pushes it open and runs in. This happens at midnight every night. It's kind of spooking me at this point because although she can be a stubborn and persistent cat I've never seen her freak out like this. In fact other than telling me she wants to eat or wants to be petted she is pretty quiet and sleeps a lot.

Kitty is lonely - perhaps acquiring a little friend for it would help - personally I've always believed in having two kitties together. If you can't get another kitty, you may have to tackle the problem from a different angle by addressing the allergy issue. There are plenty of effective treatments for allergies. * An interesting note here - I once knew a person who would visit us sometimes - she was always saying how terribly allergic she was to cats. One day I wasn't home when she came over. She went to sit down, asking my husband which chair the cats never used. He pointed out the one that they always used, and she sat in it. She had absolutely no reaction at all, then or later. The fact was, she just didn't like cats.

This sounds kind of weird, but maybe she can see something you can't. Like a ghost, they have keen senses they just can't really tell us whats going on. I think she's trying to tell you something. Although I just got a new cat with my g/f and he meows a lot presumably for food most of the time. So who knows.

Ours does that occasionally. We go look, he turns to us with a 'what???' look on his face, so we figure it's just cat opera. The bathroom tub and sink were prime spots, as was the top of the stairs.

Sometimes they just want to yell I guess.
