Wilderness EMT Certification?
I've looked into several of the reputable schools that offer W-EMT certification. My question is, what is the real world job outlook of a W-EMT? There seems to be very little information available on job openings in the field, salary, advancement opportunities, etc.. Anybody have inside knowledge? Worked as a W-EMT? Know a good resource for information that I haven't found? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Many thanks.

Wilderness EMTs work commonly in backcountry, and in the areas that are not usually very accessible to the general ambulance traffic. They might be responsible for helping with splinting, wound care, and all of the other jobs associated with this type of job.

Terrible idea. The college I teach at tried that out and found that the emt's who went through it failed the national test miserably, and the ones who did passed had no idea what they were doing. Needless to say, they got rid of it. 99% of what you really need to know will come from an experienced instructor showing you and telling you how things are applied in the real world. You can read signs and symptoms, statistics, techniques, etc.. all you want in a book, anyone can, but you're going to come out of the program a very poor EMT without the face to face education, the ability to ask questions, and the discussions and clarification on topics.
