Cat died, what could have caused it?

She was almost two years old, found her dead this morning. There was a small puddle of snot that had come out of her nose.

She had been in heat for the past few days, so she was inside.

What could have caused her sudden death?

I'd like to know because I have a 6 month old cat (one of the dead cat's kittens from the only litter she had) and am worried it may be something contagious.

TBH it could have been anything, she could have chocked on something, or it culs have been something like a little cold (which os very dangerous for cats, especially young ones). I'm so sorry for your loss.

I am sorry for your loss.

Sudden death in cats could be caused by many different things, including a stroke or heart attack if you saw no previous symptoms. If she seemed to be in pain last night pancreantitis is a possibility. The only way to know for certain is to have a necropsy performed, this however can be expensive. The best thing would be for you to describe what you saw to your vet, and let them give an explanation.

If you've been letting her outside, the list of things that could have happened is too long to mention. She could have eaten a toxic plant, someone could have poisoned her, she could have caught feline leukemia from getting spit on by an FeLV+ cat....all sorts of things. Also, if you don't know the cat she originally mated with, she could have caught another list of diseases from that cat. It may be contagious, it may have been passed to the kitten some other way - there's no way to tell.

  • well if theres a dog in the hous to and the food is out the cat could o f chocked on the dogs food
