Apple powermac G3 not booting up after trying to boot from puma disk?

Hi,

I got an old powermac G3 running OS 9.2 recently, but as 9.2 can't browse the internet I decided to upgrade. I downloaded a copy of OS X 10.1, burned to CD following the instructions and stuck it in my powermac. The installer prompted me to reboot holding down the "C" key, so I did that, but... nothing. It made the startup chime, both of the HDD's clicked a little, and then... nothing. Not even a grey screen with a happy mac sign on it. I left it for around 5 minutes with no sign of it doing anything. I'm sure the video cables are connected correctly, as it was working until I rebooted. The HDD's didn't make a sound after startup. I tried disconnecting the cd drive, etc... Still nothing. So now I'm left with a mac that I can't use, taking up space. What can I do?

Answers would be VERY appreciated, I'm desperate here. :(

P.S It's the early powermac G3, with a beige case and a 300mhz processor. It also has 384mb ram, so its capable of running puma. ;)

Update:

Thanks anyway john, but it's not a g3 laptop I have, its a tower. And the problem here is not installing the software, the computer won't start up now. It makes the startup chime, I can hear the hard disks searching for a moment, then they stop. It dosen't output any display at all, I know this because my monitor keeps going through the colour test thing. It stops for a second (recieving a blank display signal) but then it continues. It's definitely not a display issue, because if it was booting into OS 9, the hard drives would be making much much more noise. But in this case they are silent after the first search. This morning I tried removing the CMOS battery and started it up, but the same thing happened. :(

I'm not sure if you can gift points on here, but if you can tell me how to and I will give 100 to the first person that provides a working answer. :)

Update 2:

Oh yeah, and I can't boot from a CD either. :(

Update 3:

Ok thanks for your answers but I've fixed it now; I reset the PRAM by holding down Apple key+Option+P+R at startup.

This will be a long one yet here we go a G3 laptop is capable of running OS X yet to surf the internet the highest OS X you need to get to is Panther 10.3 actually 10.3.9 to be exact after you get the .Dmg or .ISO or the original of Panther you need to burn the CD using Disk Utilities to make a "Bootable Disk".

After install Panther do not download current system software as this will slow down the laptop as well many will not install.

Old Mac Apps (as well as Windows Apps top those reading) has all the System software to get you up and running.

    http://mac.oldapps.com/

Choose from any of following apps Browsers, Utilities, Music & Video, and Messengers if you need older applications as well here is a great site to download free applications.

    REALLY GREAT SITE:

Happy surfing please post an update if you have any problems.

no longer even remotely a risk in any way, shape, or style. homestead windows can not run on a PowerPC processor, a minimum of no longer without an emulator which would be slower than an asthmatic snail. additionally, you do not have 10.5 put in on a G3. That basically isn't a risk. Leopard desires a minimum of a G4 CPU to run.
