What do serve to eat at a late reception.?

I'm planning on having my wedding around 6 in the evening in April...therefore the reception would be at 7 or so...what should I do for food? Should I serve a full meal, or should I serve like a "light" luncheon kind of meal...or a variety of appetizers? and if so what kind of appetizers.

People will have last eaten at noon. If they are going to have to wait until seven or later to eat they are not going to be happy. You can't expect them to stop for a snack on their way to the ceremony. You also can't expect they will have their own dinner at 3 or 4 so they could dress and get to the ceremony at 5:30. You have to feed them dinner and they should be told on the reception card "Dinner immediately following". If you are confused, so will they. Good your thinking about them.

Great query! Just this summer season I photographed a later night marriage ceremony in which the couple had an entire-reception however most effective served finger meals. To be sincere, it felt somewhat awkward and threw the agenda askew just a little. However, if it is a day reception I feel you'll be able to extra adequately serve a "mild lunch" or have an "appetizer reception." Past the dinner hour is whilst it feels somewhat strange. Or, you would continually decide upon a "dessert reception" if you are having the put up-rite events beyond the dinner hour. Just ensure if you are going with a non-conventional course that you just feel by way of what serving will seem like, how lengthy it's going to take or if a buffet/non-take a seat down occasion could be extra suitable. Best of success - and feature amusing!

In America most people don't even eat dinner until after 7 pm due to work schedules so even a dinner is fine. Or have finger foods type style so that it could go either way. Most people that come to a wedding at that time will not have eaten before they go so you have to feed them. If you do appetizers then be sure some are sandwiches and fruit bowls and veggie trays so everyone has something. When I did my daughter's wedding we catered it from a mexican place. It was just as cheap as getting all that food and preparing it myself. They made everything in mini style and it was perfect. The object is to have something nourishing and ecconomical so it doesn't break your budget but still satisfies the guests.

You have to serve a full meal. 7 is usually dinner time for most and they will expect it. If you are spending a lot of money on entertainment you must consider that people will leave if they are hungry. Plus you will have too many drunk people if the food is not substantial.

At that time of day you could go either way but it should be mentioned in the reception invite....sort of like either dinner will be served or appetizers will be served so they know what to expect.

Go with a full meal, a nice buffet. Seven or eight in the evening is not too late to serve dinner.

    Jaime,

You must remember that people will be getting ready and traveling to your wedding right at 5 p.m. or shortly after. Then the ceremony at 6 p.m., so by 7 p.m. they will be starving! Definitely serve a full meal.

7 p.m. is considered dinnertime for a lot of people. I would expect a full meal at that time.

That is dinnertime. Serve a real meal.

A light luncheon is only appropriate for mid-day.

I would serve finger food really, I know that many eat supper at 5 or 6 but honestly I feel that it being so late your really need to serve something light but kind of filling. I woudl say something like finger sandwhiches and those mini meatballs things that are "finger foods" but everyone loves and there is PLENTY of!!
