You refuse it.
There's no such thing as "free". This kitten is going to need to be spayed or neutered, given its shots, deflead, dewormed, tested for disease and microchipped. All of that is going to set you back about $300-$400. Do you have that sort of money - NOW?
You also don't have a clue how to care for one. All the questions your asking can easily be found on the internet. Do some research and then if you truly have the time AND can afford a kitten - then and only then should you get one. And go to a shelter and adopt. For only around $100 you'll get a kitten with all the things done I mentioned above.
Meanwhile please ask your friend to stop giving away unaltered kittens. If these kittens go on to breed, rebreed and their kittens breed this one litter could end up turning into THOUSANDS more kittens. She either needs to spay and neuter them first or surrender them to a no-kill shelter once they're at least eight weeks of age so the shelter will do this before they're adopted out. The mother cat can get pregnant as early as FOUR WEEKS after pregnancy so please ask her to keep her indoors and away from unaltered males till she gets her fixed.

You are in for a wild ride, as kittens come turbocharged. But don't worry about bathing. They are continually giving themselves a bath. The kitten will drink water. Now I am assuming the kitten is at least 8 weeks, and preferably 10 weeks old so it will have gotten adequate training from its mother.
So make sure your place is child proof, as kittens get into and onto everything. Anything you would not want a human baby getting into applies to a kitten.
I am giving a link on introducing a new kitten to your home. It has suggestions of things to get, but I ignore a bed, as they find a spot and Feliway is rarely ever needed. An inexpensive cardboard scratcher is almost universally liked.
As the link suggests, continue with the same food, and if a change, do it gradually, and remember. The kitten is the decider. It the kitten does not agree with the new food selection, it will not eat it.
And a vet check right off the bat is advised, so there are no surprises. And you establish a relationship with a vet for future vaccinations and spay/neuter at the right time.

Geezus. What'd you have - twelve cups of coffee formerly scripting this? i'm no longer analyzing this finished novel yet purring is a calming mechanism so no - it does no longer mean a cat is chuffed. A cat could nicely be greater suitable than chuffed or very under pressure or in very much of soreness and be purring. could you hold your cat in a CLOSET whilst travelers are over? No. If the litterbox stinks that is considering which you're no longer scooping it or changing it adequate. maximum dry meals are made quite often of corn and incorporate little to no meat. do no longer purchase your nutrition on the food market or WalMart. detect a greater appropriate end puppy save with manufacturers like Innova Evo, Blue Buffalo desert, Petcurean go! organic. those meals are 40 5-50% meat protein and incorporate no grain. She additionally should obtain canned nutrition on a each and daily foundation besides. In all this I see no longer something approximately this kitting getting regarded at by employing a vet. it is the 1st element you may DO once you get a clean kitten. As for comments that there could be books approximately kitten care. there is countless them - and you have got examine one formerly you got this kitten.

even before you start worrying about how to take care of the kitten, you should be aware that kittens, or any other baby animal, should be separated from the mother AFTER 3 months (roughly 10 -12 weeks). It is so important that you make sure your adopting the kitten after it has had sufficient time with it's mother to build up an immune system and digestive system. I know that people want small little bundles of fur to hold and cuddle with, but they're still pretty small at 3 months, so it's worth the wait.

I have two cats and they're quite independent, you don't have to walk them bathe them etc and their easier to look after than a dog. Get the cat a litter tray because you will have to teach it to use that, food and water bowls. You should feed you cats according to their age. Kittens need to be fed little and often increasing their amount as they age. Its up to you weather you want to feed them wet or dry food, just make sure they have plenty of fresh drinking water. You'll find cats can be quite fussy on their food but once you know the one they like it'll be cool. One of my cats loves dry food and one loves wet. Cats pretty much take care of them selves so there a good pet to have.
Don't forget to get the cat vaccinated because if you don't they can get sick in later life.

Go to your local pet store they can help you out.
You will need:
Kitten food
Cat bed
Food bowl
Water bowl (Yes they drink water, do not give them cows milk as it will cause diarrhea, you can give them cat milk which you can buy in bottles, as a treat)
Scratching post
Litter tray
Litter (Get non clumping, Kittens tend to eat litter and clumping can block there stomach up.
Toys
Cat comb
If its older than 12 weeks you can get a collar too
You don't need to bath a cat, they keep themselves clean,
I think that's about it :)
xx
