you may have sprained your achilles tendon...you should go to the doctor to make sure you havent torn anything, if it is too bad of an injury, they may have to do surgery to fix it, but if you can walk at all i doubt it is that serious. Just do RICE, Rest, ice, compression, and elevate. Rest your leg, put ice around the injury site, use an ace bandage to compress the injury site and help stabilize it, and keep it elevated...you should be okay after a few weeks :)

it is a tendon in yoru heel named after Achilles from the Trojan War tale The Odyssey, wikipedia explains: The Achilles tendon is the tendonous extension of 3 muscle tissue within the decrease leg: gastrocnemius, soleus, and plantaris. Gradually fitting shriveled under, it's inserted into the center facet of the posterior floor of the calcaneus, a bursa being interposed among the tendon and the higher facet of this floor. The tendon spreads out moderately at its decrease finish, in order that its narrowest facet is approximately four cm. above its insertion. It is protected through the fascia and the integument, and stands proud prominently in the back of the bone; the hole is crammed up with areolar and adipose tissue. Along its lateral facet, however superficial to it, is the small saphenous vein. The achilles' muscle reflex checks the integrity of the S1 spinal root.

Your Achilles tendon is most stretched when your foot is pointing towards your body eg when you are squatting and that is usually when Achilles tendon injuries occur. When the Achilles tendon snaps there is usually a loud snapping sound. It doesn't sound like you have an Achilles tendon injury but you may have damaged another ligament in your foot. Even small ligament damage is very painful. Is it swollen? I would see a doctor.

Source(s): I snapped my Achilles tendon and a ligament in my ankle (two separate times!)
