why is chicago police police a joke?
with crime on a steady rise, nepotism and racism within the dept. preventing any non-white from being hire, why is CPD looked at as a bad joke? the mayor had 500 officers in his command and disbanded that department.
jay and you "others" are so naive! I see why it is so easy to fool Americans, you look at things from your ivory-towers through rose colored binoculars! you all should come to Chicago, where the action is and see for yourself whats going on. its appearent that you dont have a clue!

people call the police and they come an hour later, if they come at all! if the CPD did there job, like the chicago housing authority police did they're job, btw, which got disbanded because they were a minority dept. of 500 and outshined a 13000 force, crime would not as bad. Daley had a force of cops under his control and disbanded them for money, how about that? the slave-trade still exist.
to the sgt. kudos on your credentials! but i dont care about them, i have a BA in pre-law 3.5 GPA, masters in conflict resolution, a veteran, and a cop. How did you serve minorities?! thats what cops do,"SERVE". most cops forget that part.

i would understand if someone from CPD responded, here is thier chance. lets see if any CPD is online or have the nuts to respond, i welcome it. as far as those others, they are out of line! they could have answered the question without malice, it was their choice.

I guess you are not going to get anybody to bite. You seem pretty hostile to the people who disagree with you too. After reading you little comments to everyone's answers, your personality shines through.I guess it's a good thing for you this is by computer, and not face to face. Some of those 13,000 joke cops might want to knock the snot out of you.

The police are damned if they do and damned if they don't. CPD is one of the most highly regarded departments in the country. On a daily basis they have to fight hoards of black gangsters who are killing themselves at record rates. If the police dared shoot any of them they would be called racist. If they don't arrest the entire gangster element then people like you whine about it.
Here is what you do. Go down to headquarters and pick up an application and I am sure that you will be hired since you are an expert on police work. Then after two weeks on the street come back and tell us how its going.

Source(s): I am a retired police officer. I retired as a sergeant, after 29 years, from a very large department, about 12,000 officers. I was a patrol officer for 4 years in a very diverse area. I was a tactical officer in the high rise project areas of my city. We called it vertical patrol in that we walked the the stairways of the high rises most of the time. I did that for 5 years and was promoted by test to detective. I worked violent crime (homicide, sex, officer involved shootings, robbery, kidnapping, serious non property incidents) for 11 years until I was promoted to sergeant. I worked as a street supervisor, a bicycle patrol supervisor and a desk sergeant/watch commander. During my time as a tactical officer and a detective I was a unit representative for the police union. I like Jay's suggestion. Why don't you go take the test and become a Chicago Police Officer. Then you can see first hand if it is a joke or not. People like you, who love to criticize the police couldn't last one welfare Friday night on the job.
