Can cats become depressed?

I recently moved from a quiet street where my cat used to go outside to a busy street where he is now an indoor cat. He was fine for the first few weeks and is now sitting in the same spot. He only gets up to eat and use the litter..He just doesn't seem to be himself at all.

Yes, cats have feelings & can feel sad or depressed. We foster cats from the SPCA. We fostered an 11 year old cat over the winter whose owner died. The cat was mourning & wouldn't eat. When he came to us he just hid. We gave him lots of loving attention. He came out of hiding & started to eat. He became very lovable. He's now back at the SPCA hoping to be adopted. We visit him several times a week. If you haven't tried these yet, I suggest: getting a fun scratching poll with a seat on top, where he can sit & look out the window. He can have lots of fun climbing. Try some new toys & play with him. Most important...show him lots of love. Hopefully he'll come around. If not, you'll need to ask your Vet.

I was reading a article today that said indoor cats need a lot of things toys, boxes and even games to find their food, to keep them from getting bored. I moved and kept my kittens indoor for a while, but after all the crying and sadness I started letting them out while I supervised. I have now taught them where they may go and may not go and to run if they see or hear a car. I have installed a cat flap for them and they are now enjoying the outside life again!!

Yes cat's can get depressed, my cat's so similar things when I go out of town... while I'm gone they just sit at the door meowing, and when they see the suit case out they just sit next to it all day. They do get better though, and so will yours, they just need time to get over it just like people :)

sure, cats can exchange into depressed. once I moved to NYC to bypass to college, i became unable to take my cat with me, and he or she became very depressed. She had to be positioned on anti-stress pills for a together as to evade over-grooming (she became washing all of her fur off). exceptionally much 2 a protracted time later, my Siamese became depressed any time I had to holiday for artwork. And he became very depressed as quickly as we had to bypass out of NYC (because of loss of artwork) a number of months after the assaults of 9-11-01. Siamese are particularly delicate and don't deal properly with the shortcoming of a house or someone with whom they have bonded. My tabby became very depressed—or maybe have been given ill—after his ultimate pal (my Siamese) died. i could evaluate taking your cat to the vet to ensure there is no actual reason in the back of his habit besides. whilst a cat does not devour, it may exchange into severe (cats can advance a "fatty liver" it relatively is a severe and existence threatening concern if left untreated.) extra effective treats and toys, and a great number of interest (if the cat is calling for interest) all look to assist a depressed cat. it additionally will take time. Cats mourn very like human beings do. possibly a bypass to out of your son could desire to help the cat understand that he's not lifeless, yet he has only moved to a diverse territory. good success with him.

My dog is the same way. Anything can be depressed, It has feelings, but in this case It's probably not depression. Probably just homesick. But It should slide by.

Better take him in for an exam. Sick cats act that way.
