There is no such thing as an Atheist in a foxhole...comments?

Please don't waste space with one liner, sophomoric "I'm quick, so I must be smart" comments.

Think about this.

So are you saying that the Russians and Chinese don't have soldiers? For the record, I was an atheist in a foxhole. I served in the Army as 11B and then 11M (both infantry MOSs). I served during Operation Desert Storm.

The point of the quote isn't that atheists "find god" when they're about to die (although many Christians like to assert otherwise). The point is that, when things come down to the wire, when things look their worst, we aren't atheists, Christians, Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, etc.; we're all human, and we can, and will, stick together.

It reminds me of the movie "Independence Day." When hope looked like it was lost, when humanity was on the verge of extinction, the world put aside their differences and fought as a singular purpose.

do you actually believe that or are you just parroting what you've been told because it fits with all the other stuff you've been told? it makes as much sense as the statement that atheists have no morals.

atheists understand that if prayer worked, there'd be no need for anyone to hide in a foxhole.

I've thought and it simply is not true. It simply cannot be true because that would mean that every person ever in a foxhole has been asked.

I'm an atheist. I have been an atheist for a quite a while.

Including during my time serving in combat.

This type of thinking is daft and insensitive, not to mention disrespectful of the many, many atheists serving in the military (in any military, really).

It's just a phrase by someone that never was in a foxhole himself, so he wouldn't know.

When you are getting shot at you don't have time to think about being religious. I don't think praying to some false deity will stop bullets. So yes, I was still an Atheist getting shot at.

Show me a fox-hole and an atheist, and I'll happily oblige and show you there IS such a thing.

It's stupid. I'm an atheist and I've been in a foxhole.
