Why do some people "cringe" at the word or thought of being married?

Myself, I think I would like to be married. What is so wrong with it?

Update:

@oldsouldier's Never Die, you made a very valid point.

Marriage can be great as long as you find the right person for yourself and keep communicating!

People cringe at the thought because they are single and they went to Walmart yesterday and saw my husband and I with our 4 kids - one having a tantrum. They cringe at the thought because they know with marriage comes responsibility and commitment and that means they won't get their single lifestyle anymore with the coming and going whenever you please, taking trips on your own accord without running things by anyone or thinking about your children. Marriage is tough and most marriages these days don't survive. People cringe at the thought because of their soon to be divorced and divorced friends are suicidal and the divorce is a hideous battle in the court system and it's all they can talk about. If you don't have very strong character and virtue in yourself to handle the challenges that come with marriage - you should cringe. They have never fallen in love so hard that they would be willing to go through that with anyone. You have to fall really hard to make this choice because yes - there are wonderful times and great highs - but you share all of life's struggles and pain too. You have to see each other through illness, job loss, cancer or any myriad of negative things that life can bring as well. That is why people cringe.

Because marriage is sacred, however people don't honor there marriage vows these days and no longer marry for love.

Most of my co-workers, some family members, friends and a couple of neighbors seem to be miserable in there marriages. This really makes me cringe hearing the gripes and pain of marriage. Some of them give marriage a bad name.

The joint efforts of the Men's Rights Movement (Dad's rights even) and Feminism. Marriage enslaves women, marriage will result in the loss of all your assets. In today's society the ideal relationship looks like two single people that (hopefully) f*ck each other once in a while and have decided to share the bills.

Source(s): Incidentally divorce rates are pretty high.

Oh man - as you get older and go through a few relationships, you realize how difficult they are. Marriage truly is a cure for sex - within a couple weeks you're done with sex - and it's time to move on - BUT you now have a "Marriage License" from the state!!!!

Marriage now is a FAIL because people get caught up in fairy tales and think things are always supposed to be perfect. When they realize they might have to work at it a little they run.

I never want to get divorced hence I'll never get married.

because I will lose half my $hit as soon as she finds a better deal than me.

and then she makes my kids hate me after she takes my house and car.

and then I have to pay HER money for her new stud who's knocking boots with her.

    How's that?

marriage is just sining a stupid paper...it doesnt really mean anything..

if you really love that person you'll always stay with him/her...you dont need to sign a paper to prove that you love them...

Source(s): marriage is just a word...
