Superficially you definition seems correct at first instance but it lacks the concept of development of a religion. If u study world religions u will find that it took a lot of time for a religion to develop and reach the present stage and it keeps on changing as new beliefs take place of old ones slowly.

The religion that does not give place to change in it as per requirements of its followers dies out. this is the religion most of people follow and fight with each other for.

If u further go inside to observe the people who really live their religion (not extremists or scholars who just speak and follow just superficial and moulded belief) you will find that they are more like scientists observing themselves on a day today basis and understanding their internal nature.

Only difference is That Scientists believe that its material which ultimately manifested into consciousness through complex chemical reactions. and

Religionists believe that its consciousness which was there at first and because of it all material world exists.

But nobody has been able to satisfy everybody till date.

No. It is not something "agreed upon by a group of people" but something evolved over a period of time. It is like a "code of conduct". For example, for the Hindus, it is the Bhagvad Gita which lays down the principles based on which one should live. Same with the Bible and Koran for respective religions. The practices and rites are not in the original codes but evolved and are adapting to changes according to the needs of time. What was a practice a few decades ago may not hold good now. What is important is that one should believe in whatever one is doing and should have a strong conviction.

Yes. That applies to all religions. Although, there's more to it than that. Going off that alone, you could say that the U.S. Constitution is a religion, which it clearly is not.

It is a fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a group of people, and a doctrine which attempts to explain the natural world, usually by means of omnipotent creators/beings.

no....to me religion is belief in a higher being and the handling of those beliefs. i wouldn't add the word "fundamental", or "agreed upon", or even "group". my religion is not the same as anyone else's although it is close enough to fall in several groups, or the larger group of "Christianity

That's like saying that a sentence is a group of words. While that may be true, there are also many other criteria which need to be fulfilled in order for it to be a sentence (grammar, word order, punctuation, etc).

As I humbly understand, religion is collection of self experiences by Firstman or Saint etc. in search of God. Such spiritual persons must have practiced meditation etc and what ever was their experience, was informed to first listeners and after such repeatition, this became a set of advices, who ever believed in that preachings and branded as 'religion'.

Now followers of such teachings can accept or adopt such preachings but here I would suggest to make them fit to your personality or mental frame first and then practice.

If one wants golden ornament, basic nugget of gold is not useful. So you have to process Gold nugget and soften it and give desired shape to make wearable ornament.

Likewise you accept best of basics of religion, try your best to fit your personality in to its frame and then come out with final path and then follow. This method certainly makes the path worthy and comfortable for smooth walk.

It is possible that all basics of all religion may or may not suit you mentally and in order to adopt you are trying to change yourself to accomodate basic principles as it is. This creates mental friction and duality which disturbs.

There is no harm in changing cloths of basic religion which can suit your mental and spiritual frame.

In fact it is more easy becuase person will not like to change himself or herself but he or she can adopt, modify and practice and learn more, fine tune knowledge and practice more and achieve desired result. To me this is more easy.

I believe that borrowed and ready made knowlde of basics is not so better then self moulded basics for our own self. In former case you are 'blind follower' but in later case you are 'intelligent' follower and believe me there is a big difference in these two.

Just think on above and do what suits your intelligence.

You need to have a God in there or it's not a religion.

    Yes.

That isn't complete. I'd say something about believing in supernatural agents.

Yes. All organized religions, other than the Jewish religion, which was created by God for the Israelites, are made by man and are man’s attempt to please their gods and control other people. All religions have rules, rituals and laws to follow. Every religion believes that they have the answers for redemption. The answer for redemption through religion, lies within man’s ability to perfectly follow it’s teachings which man can not do. Jesus is the only one who followed religion perfectly.

Jesus is God’s way to reach down to mankind with love, forgiveness, acceptance and grace. Jesus is not a religion. He is God and He is the way for man to have fellowship with God.

When we come to Jesus, we are full of the original sin nature and the sins that we have committed. He cleanses us when we accept Him as our Lord and Savior and repent of those sins.

Our redemption and salvation results from Jesus’ willful and sacrificial death on the cross to take our place for our sin nature and our sins. He is the only atonement possible because He is without sin. Jesus does it for us because we are incapable of following any religion perfectly. He did follow the law perfectly.

Coming to Jesus as our Lord and our Savior, not religion, is what God requires for us to become forgiven, sanctified, and have the personal relationship with God that He intended from the start. Jesus is the only way to God.

    James 1:27 (New International Version)

27Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
