Dogs and cats have different nutritional needs. It won't kill either of them in the short term but longer term it can affect their health. Start doing two or three meals a day where you lock each of them in their own room with their own food. Give them 15 or 30 minutes to eat, then pull the food up. After a few days they should get used to the routine and eat when the food is offered.

I don't know about dog nutrition, but I do know about cat nutrition and your cat will not be healthy on dog food. It doesn't contain taurine which is essential to a cat.

Aslo I'm sure it's full of grain, which is basically carbohydrates and your cat can develop diabetes and become fat.

You need to be strict for their own sake and feed them high quality species appropriate diet.

Feed them at the same time in different rooms. Take the food away after 30 minutes if they don't eat it and refrigerate it. Try again in a few hours. No animal will starve itself just out of being fussy about their food. The cat would be harder to adjust, but the dog will give in pretty fast.

Pour some tuna juice over the cat's food, it should make it more appealing.

You can try mixing it gradually, but you need to make a change or you are risking your pets' health in the long run.

    Dog Food

An occasional bite of dog food won't hurt your cat. But dog food is not a substitute for cat food. They do have many of the same ingredients. But cat food is specially formulated for a cat's needs, which include more protein as well as certain vitamins and fatty acids. A steady diet of dog food can cause your cat to be severely malnourished. So it is very bad for her maybe you could have the dog eat outside if your cat is an indoor cat. Maybe feed your cat wet food she might like it better and it is good for her too!

Source(s): I am not making this up it was on pets web md http://pets.webmd.com/cats/slideshow-foods-your-ca... told you 10 points?? plz its the 13th slide

This could be dangerous to their health, dog food does not have some essential nutrients that cat food has (that you cat cannot metabolize and MUST get from his food). Worse comes to worse, buy only cat food so the cat is forced to eat it. It's less of a problem for the dog if he eats cat food.

My friend's cat and dog do the same thing... They just put one animal away while they feed the other. Makes it a little tougher since you can't just leave their food sitting out for them all the time, but if you could get them on some kind of feeding "schedule," they'll get used to it pretty quick.

Feed them separately (different rooms, with doors) and do not leave the foot sitting out all day.

My animals are not picky eaters because they get what I give them and nothing else. If you stand firm, they will soon give up and eat what is offered.

    This is perfectly fine!!!

My cat has been eating dog food her whole life!....I just heard cat food is more fattening. This is actually better if u think about it now u just need to buy one type of food, like whichever one is on sale. For example, i have a cat and a dog and i feed them both Beneful...which is a dog food.

my dog and cat does that too! im guessing its nothing serious because its just food mashed up or dryed out and they eat what they like.
