What Are Cats that Are Okay for People w/ Cat Allergies?

Hello. I love cats. They're one of my favorite animals and I've always wanted one, but years ago, I discovered I have cat allergies.

Recently I found out about Siberian cats, that have low levels of the protein in cat saliva that humans are allergic to.

Are there any more cats like the Siberian cat that are pretty safe for people who are allergic?

Contrary to popular belief, it's not the HAIR NOR DANDER which cause the allergic reaction. It is an enzyme in ALL CATS' saliva.

The hair gets the blame simply because they lick their hair all the time. But you simply cannot get away from the saliva.

HOWEVER... there are somethings you can do to help limit an allergic reaction....

    1. Get a SHORT haired cat... the shorter the hair the less hair to have to deal with. (Okay, so you don't have this choice right now... go to #2)

    2. BRUSH the cat often to get rid of the excess hair.

    3. VACUUM your carpets/floors/sofas/furniture wherever the cat "lives."

    4. WASH the cats' beds (or other things they frequent... pillows, blankets, etc) regularly to get rid of the enzymes that can build up.

    5. BATHE your cats often. Okay, not an EASY thing! But you can purchase bath-wipes specially made for cats. Rub the cat to "bathe" him/her to get rid of the enzymes they lick onto their coats. If you CAN get your cat USED TO an actual bath (or take to a groomer regularly for a bath) then that would be great! Every 2 weeks, with the bath wipes in between would be great.

    6. DO NOT ALLOW your cat to SLEEP in the bedroom of the allergy sufferer.

    7. Purchase and TAKE allergy meds DAILY. There are 24-hr antihistamines which are perfectly SAFE to take every day. Wal-Mart has their own brand which is a whole lot cheaper than the brand name.

The only other long-term solution is for them to go to an allergist and take the treatments which could possibly end their allergy. But this is up to the person, along with the budget!

So, there you have it! Most of these steps are not difficult to do and will make allergic life with your cats tolerable!

I have an easy and inexpensive solution that requires no meds! You can treat the cats and the environment and you will be fine.

These products are safe for you and your cat. I have used them for years. The other nice thing is that the whole solution costs less than $30!

    1. Allerpet/C for cats. This stuff is amazing! The bottle says you should put it on a wash cloth but I put it in a spray bottle. I hold my cat still, usually while he is sitting on something by firmly but gently holding the scruff of the neck. Lightly spray the whole cat including the belly and legs and then just run my hands over the cat to evenly distribute. The cat is damp not soaked. They groom right away but it does not matter. This will keep you allergy free for about a week- so just do it once a week.

    2. Anti-Allergen spray. Another amazing product! You spray this on upholstered furniture, curtains, carpets and it will neutralize any allergens. You should spray it weekly when you treat your cat.

If you use each of these products once a week you may not need any other help. If you are still having issues a HEPA vacuum cleaner and/or air purifier will help too.

It depends on what it is that you are allergic to. I've never heard of being allergic to cat saliva - usually it's their fur. There are breeds that are hairless that are good for people who are allergic to cats (unless you're worried about the saliva ...?) But most of those are really ugly -- in a cute kind of way, but ugly all the same. Like, freaking creepy looking cats. But hey - loads of people like them!

yeah if you cat is licking you but cat tongues are not the most comfortable thing to touch your skin. I myself have allergies too but lived with cat my whole life. Each person has a different level of tolerance for their allergy. For me my face burns or itches but for my step mom, she swell upon contact. You need to know your level first.

After that then its the knowledge of your allergy. Chances are its because of dander and not saliva. Each breed is different too. Short hair doesn't guarantee relief but long hair doesn't either. It sounds weird but when i adopt i rub my face with my hands after touching the cat in question and wait ten minutes. Often shelter have mix breeds and there is no real way of know except by testing. Just because the shelter says it a Siberian doesn't mean there isn't oriental in there too.

completely changing cat food isn't ok. Cats and canines are thoroughly distinctive and characteristic thoroughly distinctive needs whilst it includes food. in case you feed a cat canines food many times, the cat will finally end up with malnutrition via fact there is too a large number of a few factors and not sufficient different. as an occasion, cats choose taurine to be healthful, if it does not get carry of taurine in its food regimen, it ought to deliver approximately blindness and/ or coronary heart situations, all commercial cat food comprise sufficient taurine to ward off this. undesirable consequences; illnesses effecting the guts, blindness and malnutrition So, the worst that should ensue is which you effectively kill your cat from malnutrition or coronary heart illnesses. this is a question with two possible answers, some guys favor long hair while others may favor shorter hair

Personally I like guys with smaller hair. I don't mind it getting a little long like 3-4 in . (maybe a little longer) as lengthy as it's styled in a very good way.
