How to remove spark plug tube seals?

I have a 2000 Dodge Neon 2.0 L engine.

I already removed the valve cover and am now trying to remove the spark plug tube seals, but the old ones are stuck on the valve cover pretty good and their also very brittle and break off in pieces very easy.

does anyone have any tips for getting the old seals out of the valve cover? Thanks.

Flip it over. Stick a screw driver through the top. Put the edge of the screw driver against the edge of the seal and knock it out with a hammer.

I had this problem myself recently and I ended up sitting on the floor with a box of tissues crying my eyes out. JUST KIDDING.

    1) Actually, I did sit on the floor with my valve cover on top of some newspaper and a plastic garbage bag opened(I used a clear one). This was after I removed the negative battery cable, spark plug wires, the PCV Hose, the vacuum tubing and unscrewed the cap nuts holding down the valve cover in my car. I put newspaper down first, then garbage bag(opened...so I could throw the bits of the spark plug tube seals in there),

    2) With the valve cover upside down on the plastic garbage bag, I took some Palmolive ORIGINAL(green colored) dishwashing liquid and poured it around the edge of each spark plug tube seal. I tried to get it between the valve cover and the spark plug tube seal by going around each tube seal in a circle.

    3) I let it sit for a little bit and then stuck a small screwdriver in the same place(around the edge of each spark plug tube seal, between it and the where it was seated in the valve cover) and pushed down on screwdriver and pried it up enough to where I could flip valve cover over and then pop it out from the topside (through the hole) by pushing down on edges of spark plug tube seal with screwdriver. It can be stubborn or it may pop right out. When it was stubborn, I just tried again, adding a little more dish liquid(BY THE WAY . . . not the stuff used in dishwashers/I used the kind for hand washing dishes). This was how I removed my spark plug tube seals successfully after employing other options that didn't fully work as I would've liked.

    4) I wiped down the valve cover with a damp rag to remove any residue and made sure there were no spark plug tube seal bits inside anywhere. I tried my best not to scratch my valve cover during this entire process.

If your going to be replacing them it don't matter if they brake.

    good luck
