How many months in advance should a wedding registry be made?

I'm getting married in 14 months but don't really know when we should start our registry. I've gotten different answers from different sources, so I'm asking here as well!

You can make one now if you want. They ask for the date and you can make changes to it when ever you want. I would make my registry when I have set a date and know that it is the wedding date for sure by having a deposit on the reception/ceremony site. Good luck.

Its too early now. Products at stores can change a lot in 14 months.

I would wait until about 3 months before your wedding. If there is a shower before then, you should make the registry before the shower. Otherwise, waiting until 3 or 4 months before the wedding is fine. Your guests will not start thinking about a gift more than 3 months in advance, and most of them will probably look at the registry in the month before your wedding.

you can do it whenever you want. some people will send you a wedding gift before your invitations even go out! the same month I made my registries, I got 1 or 2 gifts, and that was 3 mos before we sent our invitations. I say do it as early as possible because things will always pop into your head that you want to add to the lists. and guests like to know far in advance what type of items you're looking for so they know how much they have to save up to spend.

Now. I've never heard of waiting. People will want to purchase you items from it for Christmas and holidays and as they do you can replace the items with other things. I've been in a lot of weddings and I've never heard of people not doing the registry immediately following the engagement.

There's not an etiquette rule for this - just common sense.

When are people going to start giving you gifts/checking your registry? When they receive invitations for your wedding and for your bridal shower (if you're having one).

So, for the convenience of your guests, just make sure that your registry is done by the time the shower invitations or wedding invitations (whichever is being sent out first) are mailed.

I'm thinking that giving your guests 1-3 months (depending on size of wedding) is enough, so long as you make sure people know that you have registered. As for people that are far away (grandparents, college roommates, etc.) I'd say give them more time as they'll probably be getting ready to head to the wedding at least a week before heading out.

Give your guests a few months advance to have time to purchase from your registry.

Your wedding registry should be made in the 2 weeks prior to sending out the invitations.. Invitations should be mailed 6-8 weeks prior to the wedding...

If you have set the date, go ahead and start your registry. Friends and family will go ahead and start purchasing you items from it for birthdays and holidays. Make sure there are items in plenty of price ranges.

I would think three months would be appropriate.
