I should have gone to the store. The reason that it sometimes sounds like option A when people say it is that they use the contraction "should've."

People may say "I should of gone to the store." because they're thinking of "I should've gone to the store." They sound very similar, but both are different.

The reason people say should of is because they hear people say the contraction "should've" Both are improper grammar.
