There are no side effects of drinking green tea. The only problem that might cause to our health will occur if green tea is taken over the daily recommended levels. Experts recommend at least 3 cups of green tea per day to effectively lose weight. Taking over 6 cups a day can cause palpitations (when you can hear your heart beating or irregular heart beating) due to caffeine overdose.
The average cup of green tea contains anywhere from 8 to 20 mg of caffeine, while black tea contains at least twice that amount -- 40 to 60 mg. Soda contains between 40 to 60 mg and a cup of drip coffee has a nerve-jangling 90 to 150 mg, more than half the amount of caffeine that some people should consume in a whole day. Overdose (quantities more than 300 mg caffeine, more than 5 cups/day) can lead to negative effect on the CNS and irritation of the stomach.

Actually, a coffee a day isn't bad for you. Green tea provides antioxidants though, which makes it better for you.
Also, mind what you might be putting in your tea/coffee. Take into account if you add sugar, creams, etc. that defeat the purpose.
Little amounts of caffeine are good for you, and actually help with certain cell processes. Too much though, and things start to get a little foggy. There are many research attempts on the true affects of caffeine, but all of them are seeming to be inconclusive. Also keep in mind that everyone is different, and will react differently to caffeine. The best way to know for sure how you are would be to go to your doctor and see what he/she thinks.
But indeed, the tea has far less caffeine than a coffee, no matter what way you look at it.

Tannin, which is contained in tea, can block iron absorption. So watch your tea consumption if you are prone to anemia - like if you don't eat enough meat, or if you are a skinny teenage girl who doesn't eat enough anyway. But you said the tea give you energy, and one of the symptoms of anemia is fatigue, or being tired, so you might be fine.
I work on the blood mobile. Before people can donate we have to test their hemoglobin level (which is like your iron) and we do turn a lot of people away for just that reason, and most of those people are tea drinkers (they want to know why they might be low, we ask them if they are tea drinkers, most of them are)
This is a good article that I have found about the subject.

of course that coffee has more caffine! and coffee is not bad in the mornings, just as long as your over maybe like 18 then it is certainly a good morning drink. maybe not all that healthy for you, but defintly a good waker uper and not bad for you at all. green tea is just a light drink, im not sure if its good or bad for you, i guess if you feel fine and like it better then coffee, then i guess theres nothing to be worried about at all! so good luck and congratz for quittin coffee!
p.s i had my firs iced coffee frapay the other morning! yum! but then afterwards....aowwww. lol;p

green tea is not bad for you, but everything in excess can be, just take one day and evaluate how much of whatever there is in it, and see if you consume the same ingredients during the day and add it up to figure out if its too much for a daily basis.
