SHTF Scenario (Part 1 of 3)?

The stock market has crashed. Ammunition prices have sky rocketed. The Dow Jones is at an all time low. The president has just passed a law over riding the 2nd amendment, banning all firearms from possession without a certain, hard to acclaim new licence. The Feds are coming to our homes to take our weaponry. What do you do? Leave the home alone, and find a place to barricade yourselves and wait it out, or stay at home, and make it your fort, or get together an army and fight for your rights?

What weapons would you take with you? Who would you take with you?

[This is not a realistic scenario necessarily, but I thought it would be fun. Don't give me bullshit about this, I am just having fun]

Update:

Jesse, yes, indeed it is. Maybe you should learn to read and discover that I said exactly that, to "not give me bullshit (exactly what you are giving me), I am just having fun."

Try it sometime.

Load all my guns, survival gear, weapons, and any other usable materials. Take a few friends to the most remote part of the state. Start training, As the word spreads and people find safe haven in my group we'll move towards Washington DC. Distract them in one area and cross into the city undetected. Participate in Guerrilla warfare, Sabotage, Assassinations, and just literally Steal from the Rich and give to the poor. Two things will eventually happen. We'll either build up enough people to topple the regime and set up a new government exactly like the founding fathers wanted. Each state governs themselves, the people run the state and the Federal government is never too big. More then likely tough the Fascist/Socialist/Who ever will capture us and execute us like stray dogs. At least tough we gave the average man a reason to hold his head up a little higher.

Russ has got a good answer. That level of weapon confiscation would require a massive police/military force to deal with the already rampant anarchy( in this case anarchy=looting, rioting, general lawlessness) to go around and round up all the guns in the country. That's if they knew where all the guns in the country are. The government isn't nearly as omnipotent as Hollywood would have you believe. There isn't some giant database that stores the names and addresses of every gun owner, just the ones that went through the major channels. It's much easier to get a gun from an un licensed/ private dealer than it is to get one from a gun store even is you can get one legally. Private dealer/gun shows means no registration and no required background check. There's an estimated 3 million new guns sold in the U.S. every year, now if you think a government agency can keep track of that, then you've been watching way too many conspiracy movies. The fact is, most current gun registration/tracking efforts are really nothing more than feel good measure passed by know nothing liberal politicians.

Furthermore, because our society is a (mostly) capitalist one, our government doesn't control the means of production or distribution and only collects revenue from taxes. Therefore, our government wouldn't have a leg to stand on is all of its resources disappeared overnight. So consider our military and police force having to secure the means of production and distribution, quelling rioting and general unrest, repelling potentially and likely invading forces, quelling any rebellious activity, and trying to round up all the guns that it doesn't even have the wherabouts on...

EDIT: Zombie apocalypse is a much more fun scenario lol

Well I have some "sacrificial" gear I would probably give up to start with on a first sweep and have some thoughts of hiding the rest. Bianchi Blue Bags are great for that sort of thing. Similarly, there's probably a patch of sod and weeds in my back yard which would cover an ammo stash.

Then I'd wait it out for a bit. Figure out what some of my friends and family are doing, where they are and what things look like. I have friends who live in rural farm areas, family in parts of Canada, family living on a 92 foot tug boat ... there would be options of where to go - assuming there was still a way to get there. At that point I'd have to figure out where the risks were around transportation.

In truly worst case, I still have some options for work visas in gun accepting countries overseas - at least at the moment.

Definately not getting into a shootout with Feds in the house. Noooo, if I'm going to go that route, it is going to be where I can't be so easily pinned down and I have better options for keeping on the move.

I think the all time low of the Dow is around 42 which means the blue chips will be worth less than 1/200th of today's value. The problem with your scenario is that if all these things happened, then unemployment would be skyhigh, goods and services would be scarce, and there would be general rioting and unrest everywhere. There would be a lot more to worry about than just the feds. I think I wold look to form or join a "well regulated Militia". Of course, you realize that's how the Nazis got started, when the economy and government of Germany went into the crapper, and a former army corporal started his own militia that dressed in snappy brown shirts.

INK: Learn some history. I am strong believer in the 2nd amendment, but I do not believe in supporting it with BS. It makes gun right supporters look bad. It's a myth that 1938 GERMAN GUN CONTROL LAWS SOMEHOW LEAD TO THE JEWISH HOLOCAUST OR PREVENTED JEWS FROM DEFENDING THEMSELVES. In 1938 Germany relaxed gun controls on everyone and if you were a NAZI you pretty much had no restrictions. The Jewish gun ban did not happen until AFTER a Jew shot two German officers in Paris on Nov 7, which resulted in organized retaliations against the Jews across Germany. Dozens were killed and 30,000 were rounded up for concentration camps. This all happen BEFORE the "Regulations Against Jews' Possession of Weapons" on Nov. 11th. The fact is that persecution of the Jews had been an active Nazi policy for 5 years. If the Jews ever had the means to rise up and protect themselves, that opportunity was lost long before 11/11/38.

One other thing that bothers me about the argument, is that it compares honest Americans, no matter how completely mis-guided and naive they are about gun rights, with evil Nazi bastards who passed an ethnic-group-specific gun control law with the direct rationale to exterminate a race.

Grab my guns, take my family and friends, and live in the forest and play "Guerrilla Warfare" as we shoot the Airsofties.

In reality, I would take my friends, leave home, and create/Join a Guerrilla Army, like a Guerrilla group back in the Revolutionary and Civil wars, and live my life in the wilderness, checking in on my family every now and then. I would teach a groups how to survive with a G.I. survival handbook, and give them a buck knife. After I run out of ammo, for what I can't reload, we store in a cellar, and move on to the Capital.

Being too old to be of much use anyway, I suspect I'd wait it out, perhaps offering my services and my handloading bench. And being from Mississippi, I'd have enough redneck neighbors with a generous supply of firearms (not to mention Confederate battle flags!) that it would be more trouble than it's worth to the federal government to quell that one.

I will spend every waking moment constructing improvised munitions (Iraq Style) and reloading ammunition so the goverment will have to pry my rifle from my bullet ridden corpse.

hold my ground and retaliate against until I go down in a blaze of glory. why? because you don't want to live in this country after all the guns are gone, it will be like Hitlers reign all over again except we will be playing the part as the Jews.

Source(s): once all the weapons are gone the government has full control and an attempt at genocide is usually soon to follow.

I'd tell the feds to feel free and search my home. They won't find any weapons. And they won't, because my weapons aren't kept at home.

After the search, I'd go pick them up.
