Cooking without a microwave or oven?
Is there a site where I can find recipes for cooking without a microwave or oven? I'm a student so I live in a rented apartment with a gave stove top (and a rice cooker) only so can't bake or do anything like that. Does anyone have any tips. (For example, I was watching apple crisps microwave recipe -- is there an alternative I can do on a stove top?)

I use my stove top more than anything, great for making pasta dishes, soups, casseroles, chili's, curries, stir fries, risotto etc.
If you want to make cakes and sweets, try the steaming method which the chinese use, if you have a heavy frying pan or griddle (girdle) you can make loads of biscuits and cakes, welsh cakes and crumpets come to mind.

some good appliances to have when one does not have a stove are: electric skillet crock pot BBQ grill Don't you need an oven for TV dinners?? You can cook most things in either a crock pot or an electric skillet. In the 60s we turned the iron upside down between 2 bricks and used it to cook on. We also had a coffee maker dedicated to soup making. My daughter spent most of year before last wishing for a new cookstove! She used crock pot, electric skillet and BBQ grill to cook for herself and her son. When she had saved up enough money to get a new stove she was so happy! Now no one gets to cook on the thing without being yelled at for getting a finger print on it.

You can also try the advanced search function at epicurious.com. You put in the main ingredient, check off what else you want in it, and how it's to be cooked. So you can just click any other box besides bake or broil. Then it will spit out recipes that can be made on a stovetop. Also, crockpots are cheap, you can find thousands of recipes for it. I've even seen ones for baking in a crockpot.

You'd be surprised what can be cooked in a table top toaster oven, electric skillet / grill, electric slow roaster / cooker, crock pot. Also, there are many info-mertials offering various table top sandwich makers. And don't forget the George Forman Grill..... There are many counter top microwaves & convection ovens available that don't require being mounted on the wall.

Sounds like you can fry or saute everything.
Put the sliced up apples in a pan with a little bit of water to cook them, stirring.
When they are tender add some butter and brown sugar, put the lid on and cook them a little longer.

You can basically make anything, just not baked goods!
Or casserole-type items and whole roast turkey.
But Paula Deen deep-fried a turkey once.
So maybe that would work.
