I agree with Dan and Jo. It should be easier to recycle, and packaging should be reduced. Also, we should boycott products that are specifically designed to be disposable. It makes me crazy when I see commercials pushing 'throw-away' products. You might as well just throw your money in the garbage can. I don't think we need any new laws. We already have enough laws in this country that people ignore. Our government needs to stop making criminals out of us with stupid laws that do nothing except create confusion and bureaucracy. We need more commmon sense, less government.

Most packaging is recyclable already, at least in the US. Is it all easily recyclable - No.

The problems with recycling aren't necessarily with the manufacturers of goods, it's with the ability of our nation to actually do the recycling. To build the plants, to process the millions of tons of product and to transport the materials to and from the plants. There isn't enough capacity to do the recycling if everyone and everything is recycled. That's why you hear of landfills getting recycled materials loads every once in a while.

I think a better law would be to reduce retailing packaging size and bulk to the minimum necessary for each product.

Most materials are now recyclable. It's just a matter of whether there is a demand to recycle certain types. Some forms of plastic for example, remain more expensive recycle than to buy new.

Most packaging IS recyclable in one way or another.

People are just too damned lazy to recycle it and too damned lazy to go out of their way to buy recycled products.

The amount of packaging needs to be reduced also. Any reason we need to put a frozen meal in a plastic tray, wrap it in plastic then put that into a plastic coated cardboard box?

People also need to start reusing stuff before buying new. Just about everything comes in a zip lock bag now-how many people throw away that bag then go get a new one out of the box.

It is in civilized countries such as the UK, only backward countries do not have these laws.
