Oh please help me, I don't know what to do or who to blame?!?
My cat Optimus, was running around, like usual(he's an outside cat) and one day he came home limping a little, but his brother was too so I figured they were just wrestling and something happened. But I left for like a week and when I came back his paw is swollen three times it's normal size and you can see where the break is cause it's like pointing out of his fur(not through the skin, but you can like see the bump where it could come out) and he wont let anything touch it, he can't get under the deck with his siblings to keep warm and I haven't seen his brother since I got home. Now I don't know if that's just because it was late and he was out or if somethings happened. We aren't rich and don't have much money so we can't afford a vet. And it looks like it's starting to heal but it's not healing right. My mom says he could have been hit by a car or even kicked. But it's almost winter and it's getting cold. As well I can't shake the picture of him limping across the road and another car come flying by.(We have a lot of drunk drivers) and I don't know what to do. I know that because of it's healing if we took him to a vet they would have to re-break it so they could set it, but I don't think I could put him through more pain like that myself and I know for a fact I don't have anything to set it with anyways, so please anything helpful? And please no saying mean stuff or yelling at me, no saying I need to get him to the vet cause that is obvious and I am trying. But until then?
Also we can have cats inside, but thats the problem. When we found him it was him, his brothers, his pregnant mom, and sister out on their own. We took the mom in as she was the farthest a long. She kitted and after that we brought his sister in. But he has always lived outside, he is well fed and well cared for and is in no way uncared for or anything. This is the first time anything like this has happend. And we have been able to pay for their medical expenses, like all the females were spayed, and we are working on the males. But my dads checks stopped coming in the mail and my step dad is paying for human medical expenses, my mom just got a job but it's going to our new house as my stepdads kicking us out :( and I can't get anymore money from my dad because he is having kidney problems :'( I will sneak him in now, but he can't stay till it heals because of my parents. But I will do my best. And I will call a vet tomarrow morning ask for more info, and I am saving up money.
And the closest vet we have is two cities away and we don't have an emergency vet that I can go to, the only one we have costs us $400 something just for us to get the vet to come in :(

He's inside now, and eating, but he's throwing a fit. He obviously doesn't want to be in the house, and I almost got caught, thank gosh I'm an awesome lier, even though it's not something Im proud of. But he is calming while he's eating.

Keep him inside. See if he'll drink water and eat. Make a warm bed and try to keep him comfortable until you get to the vet. Wrap the wound in tape (not too tight) to provide some support for the wound and to keep him from bitting it. There is really nothing over the counter you can give him for the pain. Do you have a 24 emergency vet in your area? Only a vet is going to be able to fix this in the long run, but until then just be with him and give him your comfort.

Not having it properly set could cause infection, could already be infected. I know you can't afford the vet been in that situation myself at times. I really think you need to take it to a shelter even if you do it in the early morning drop off when no ones there. So your cat can be properly taken care of.

Take him indoors until you can get him to the vet. If you can't have indoor cats for some reason, hopefully you can at least confine him to the bathroom. It's far too dangerous for him to be outdoors in his condition. You can improvise a litter box with a cardboard box and shredded paper. Give him warmth and soft bedding. Don't give him any pain medications, as human meds can be deadly for cats.

Dont be to harsh on yourself, hard situations happens to everyone.. its hard to determine what you could do in these type of situations but first things first try and bring your cat inside for warm shelter and then mabey just mabey a petshop/store with cats to sell or mabey someone who knows well about cats like an aspca can mabey help or atleast tell you something helpfull? Id like to be able to help you more but its hard to exactly understand without visual sight of your cats injury but I really hope you can find some good information or what you can also do is take a picture and you may by chance have a vet see it and give you a couple hints in what to do? ...
I wish you Goodluck.

It is against the law not to give injured animals proper medical attantion. Not having the money is not an excuse. Most vets will work out a payment plan to get the cat help. If you will not take the cat to a vet then take him to a shelter where he will have a greater chance of survival. He is in pain and if the break doesn't heal right then he will continue to be in pain. If you do not provide proper medical attention your parents can go to jail and they can be fined several hundred dollars.

I am so sorry this happened to your cat. There is nothing you can do, just make him fell comfortable. Try to pick him up in places so he don't jump. Make sure he sleeps in the bed with you, this way you can keep eye on him. If you take him to the vet that's GREAT. Other ways, he will heal on his own but not the way it should. I suggest you wrap his paw in those elastic bandages but make sure is not to tight. I hope I helped and I hope he gets well soon. I will pray for him. Good luck.

The one to blame is whoever thinks it's okay to let cats run loose. Whoever did that is directly at fault for his suffering. It is cruelty to have an outdoor cat. They cannot understand the danger they're in. It is also cruelty to let an animal suffer so much without bringing him to the vet. It will not hurt him more to have the bone reset. At least he will not be disabled for life, which causes much more pain.

Don't Panic!
Here's a little story for you from personal experience:
I had a cat who was hit by a car. The cat was streetwise, you could watch him sitting on the pavement at the side of the road waiting and looking left and right, just like a human, until the road was clear and he could cross. If it was heavy traffic he would hunker down, fold his front paws under him and wait. So people preach 'letting a cat out is cruel and they don't understand the danger their in', in my opinion they don't know cats very well. Anyway, I digress, the cat was hit when a particular A******e driver swerved out of his lane all the way to the other side of the road with the intention of running my cat over. There were 2 witnesses to the incident who came running to the house to let me know as soon as it happened, they thought he was dead when he was thrown into some undergrowth at the side of the road and were a bit scared about what they would find. Needless to say I went straight out to bring him back dead or alive. Well, I couldn't find him, searched up and down the road just in case the witnesses had mistaken where he was when hit but with no luck. Finally went back home thinking maybe he wasn't as badly injured as the witnesses thought or that maybe what they thought was him being hit was him getting out the way.
About and hour later I had to go outside to the garage and was just in time to see his tail end disappearing through the cat flap (they could get in the house via a cat flap or if they wanted there was a bed set up for them in the garage - just in case they brought a 'take-out' home with them).
I rushed in full of relief only to then realize that he hadn't got away injury free, as he was limping on a hind leg. I gently picked him up, put him in the passenger seat of the car and drove him to the vets immediately.
Examination and X-rays showed that he had 3 breaks in his pelvis and the ball joint broken off his hind leg. Treatment: 1 antibiotic injection, 1 injection for the pain and bed rest! Yep, that's it. The vet after due consideration decided that my cats injuries would probably be far worse if he tried to operate and wire the breaks together than if he was allowed to heal by himself. We were advised to get a box that was just big enough to allow for a small litter tray and a bed area and to cover the top with wire to prevent him getting out, to ensure that his movement was limited to allow the bones time to knit. We were to keep him confined for 6 weeks. He lasted 3 weeks in the box before he drove us all daft with his escapes out the side of several boxes. He went on to live another 11 yrs with just a slight limp to show for his serious injuries, although you could feel where the bone on his hip hadn't knitted correctly. He was still able to run and jump normally, although he was even more wary of roads after this.
Cats are very quick to heal. You might notice that when he settles down to sleep, even if he is in pain, that he will purr. Cats purr at a wavelength which has been scientifically proven to aid in their bone re-growth and healing. The act of purring also produces an enzyme which is a natural pain killer.
Yes, it would be best/better if you could get him to a vet, however given the amount of time that has elapsed a re-break is probably the only way it would heal correctly.
I would advise the same as my Vet did; to confine him and prevent movement of the bone while it finishes the healing process. Pain is there for a reason, in this case to prevent movement and weight being placed on the injured paw. (hence the reason the Vet didn't give us pain relief for our cat - it forced him to 'take it easy'). Swelling of the broken area is natural and to be expected. He has less chance of infection in the wound as the bone hasn't broken the skin. Binding the break at this late stage probably won't do any good as it has already begun to knit in the wrong position, and if done incorrectly could cause complications, too tight and the blood supply to the paw will be affected.
I don't want to seem to appear uncaring of your cats health and well-being or complacent about the pain it is in as normally I would be the first to say 'take the cat to the vet asap', however given the period of time that has elapsed since the injury was caused I would just keep an eye on him, ensure that he has enough to eat and drink and let time and nature take its course. Cats are resilient and one of the fastest healing animal you will come across.
Let us all know how you and he gets on.
BTW: Don't beat yourself up about it. It wasn't your fault, it was an unfortunate accident.
EDIT: Sorry the reply is so long-winded but I thought a bit of background history would help to explain the advice I am giving.
