Why would a police officer have to be able to see colors?

I noticed a job posting for a police officer at a local hospital and this was a requirement. I just found it interesting and was wondering why that would be really important for that job. Any ideas?

(I'm not a police officer/not applying so I'm not asking Human Resources lol)

Update:

I'm not color blind, I just thought it was interesting.

There are a few jobs that require a non- color blind employee. Art director and Cop comes to mind. Some people can get away with it. Some cant. Colorblind is considered a disability. You lack the ability to see colours. You just gotta make everything work for you. Peace.

I'm sorry if your dream of becomming a police officer is being crushed because of your color blindness. But maybe you can become a fire fighter instead. Maybe fire fighters don't have to see color. I don't know, you'd have to ask. Besides, I think mental health councelors are more noble than police officers. People commit crime because they have mental health issues. So maybe this is God's way of getting you to become a mental health councelor instead. You can even become a councelor for inmates. Or you can become a councelor for crime victems. Either way, I hope you find something els you can enjoy doing for a living. By the way, have you considered eye surgery? I don't know if color blindness can be fixed, but you might want to look into it. Maybe you could get an eye donar, someone whose passed away to donate their eyes to you so you can see color.

Other than the obvious uh being a expert witness and performing the day to day duties of a police officer .. He has to be able to know what kind of donut they are giving him .. He may not like chocolate donuts and how could he tell if he was color blind untill he ate it

Over the walkie-talkie to the cop in the cargo hold of the jumbo jet at 20,000 feet:

"Officer? Can you hear me okay?"

    "Yes."

"To disarm the bomb simply cut the blue wire."

I could see how racism could be a factor here with colorblindness and a gun.

To see if the person they're pulling over is black. They need to know if a Billy club is needed.
