When you serve others, you are serving God.
Matthew 25:40
“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

90% of Churches aren't serving God.
Serving God has nothing to do with Church built by man.
ACTS 7:48 Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands.
Acts 17:24 "The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands.
Isaiah 66:1 This is what the LORD says: "Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. Where is the house you will build for me? Where will my resting place be?
2 Corinthians 5:1 Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.
Man has turned the Church into a money raising center just like the Temple when Jesus turned
over tables and ran out the moneychangers and corrupt peddlers from the temple.
Mark 7:9 And he (JESUS) said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.
Man has made his own rules and laws for following Christ Jesus. And Jesus said man's tradition more powerful than the word of God.
People are told when where and how they must worship and what to wear and what to do and how much to GIVE>

When one gets down to it, serving the Church is serving God. Because God through Jesus established the Church. One can not separate the two.

in the book of acts it tells us that on the day of the Pentecost
Peter the other disciples and all those who gathered and believed became the first church so u should still attend church but remember the church isn't a building, Bibles, music, or Sunday schools classes, but rather it is a gathering of people to worship the Lord
Always serve the Lord first and foremost.
And you are right going to church does not make you a Christian. to be a Christian you must believe that Jesus Christ is the Lord and Savior and that he died on the cross for your sins and was raised to life three days later.

I believe you don't have to go to church to serve God. I go to church and feel as if I'm not getting enough out of it. I serve God only, not the church.

An Ant can only haul one grain of sand at a time. One ant can not build a anthill. It takes all of them working together for the good of all th ants. If you serve the church then you are serving God. Just attending church does not serve tthe church. Give the church all you can give which is your reasonable service.

You're wrong.
If you're a christian and if God is everywhere, you can serve him anywhere. There are many christians who do not go to church but help out starving kids in poorer countries. Are they not serving God?
By the way, you probably want to check out some errors in the bible.

So please explain what we are supposed to do when the bible prophecies that in the latter days God speaks to his saints and not thru men. Or how can we got to a church congregation for spiritual benefit when we live in times where "scarcely one is saved" and "I will take one from a city and two from a family", and Christ asks when He returns "will I find faith." God Himself says "All my people reject me."
There is NO confidence in a church because Satan has succeeded in destroying the people of God just as prophesied.

Serve God first and foremost. Never hold the church higher than God.

Ok, I put religious people in 6 categories:
Serving themselves: These people only go to church for show (because of what other people think about them). They don't know what the hell the preacher is talking about and they do not care. They simply show up and cannot wait to leave.
Serving the church: These people go to church and they believe in going to church and The Bible and even like going to church and understand what the preacher is talking about. These people center their religious lives around going to church, they think less of good people simply because they do not go to church and don't care if they believe in God or what their faith is if they do not go to church.
Serving the faith: These people think less of anyone who does not belong to their faith, the stereotype is a Christian who thinks less of anyone who believes any different than they do. They try to spread their faith everywhere and have no concept of when involving religion in a given situation is completely inappropriate. They often times do not understand or do understand but want to do away with separation of church and state. Politicians who believe that they're sent from god to spread their faith fit this category, how could they be so arrogant?
Serving the Bible: These people believe that life is 100% about the teachings of the Bible and actually allow the teachings of it to rule their lives. They're obsessed with the Bible and judge other people who are not no matter how religious they are otherwise. These people are the people who are always pointing to recent events as a sign from God that the end is near and trying to pinpoint events in revelations as these recent events. These people are the people you see on the bus fighting over the interpretation of certain insignificant Bible passages and more often than not all the people present in the debate are way off base. These people try to interject something about the Bible into every conversation.
Jesus freaks: Jesus is great if you believe in him. I personally do not but have nothing against those who do. Keep in mind that just because you believe in Jesus does not make you a Jesus freak. Jesus freaks are the people who believe the cause of every problem is because someone does not believe in Jesus. They're always willing to offer you help ion the way of "let Jesus into your heart and everything will be ok" or by saying "It's Jesus's will accept it." They never seem to talk about God or even have any idea that God exists because they're too wrapped up in Jesus. Everything is Jesus to them. They're the ones who always seem to be saying "help me Jesus" or "Jesus take pity on their poor souls." Jesus is 100% of who they are.
Serving God: These people serve God. They understand and carryout God's will. They love everyone no matter what belief system they have. These people tend to be the most open minded and loving. They understand that God loves everyone and that the greatest commandment is to love thy neighbor and thy neighbor isn't limited to only Christians who go to church.
