Why, after getting along well for a long time is one cat is hissing/growing at the other?

We took our younger cat (a little over a year old) to the vet for his shots (Leukemia and Rabies). Now our older cat who normally gets along well with him is hissing/growing every time the younger one even comes close.

Could he smell different or something? This has been going on for three days.

It is because he smells different. The younger cat's fur now smells like the vet office.

Go to a pet store and buy some cat wipes. Clean off both cats with them so they will smell alike and they should start getting along again. Good luck!

It could be a number of things. Different smell, yes. Your older cat could also have some problems - diabetes causes a cat to get suddenly grumpy when their blood sugar goes down, as do thyroid problems. Both are easy to maintain. Give it a few more days, but I'd recommend calling the vet and trying to get your cat in if it continues.

You really didnt give enough info about your older cat. How old is it? Is it male or female? Are they both nuetered and or spayed? There are many things that could be going on. The older cat may not be feeling well. Maybe your younger cat is too energetic for the older one. I dont think a trip to the vet is what is causing the hostility. Especially if they're close.
