What stupendously talented, uber praised Band have you just never, ever been able to enjoy?
Be it Metallica, or Led Zeppelin, or whatever....
and .. what is it that bugs you about em?
(PS if someone bashes your pet band.. be a grown up and unbunch your panties, OK?)
For me.. (the Prog-Nation will crucify me) it's gotta be GENESIS. I actually find their later Pop-Era to be mildly tolerable (what can I say..I usually don't hold Pop to high standards), but their whole Peter Gabriel Prog era simply bores me to TEARS. (As does all of Gabriel's solo work, TBH). I hear people blather on and on about how amazing a drummer Phil Collins is, blah blah blah.... and I just don't hear it. Good drummer? Sure. Ginger Baker or Moony good? Not buying it.
*** Runner's Up? The Rolling Stones, Opeth, the Police (Sting has to be the most boring pompous **** to walk the earth) Bruce Springsteen.
MQ2: Conversely.... what is a critically/ socially or otherwise reviled band that you just absolutely love, regardless of what anyone else thinks?
MQ3: Link your favorite song from said band?
BQ: If you think you can, list the top 5 Genesis tracks that you think could alter my opinion? (After all, even with Opeth and the Stones and Police, there are a handful of tracks I enjoy....just nowhere near enough to get the deified view people have of them. But then.. many could say the same thing about my love of Iron Maiden... it's all subjective, after all)
@Steelers.. every single band you listed are the epitome of Love/Hate for me.. the Who is probably my fave you listed and they got a LOT of stuff I just don't care for.
@David V... no apologies needed. Great answer. I actually don't need my view altered, but am just so used to having other people ram their tastes and opinions down my throat unsolicited on matters like that, I just thought I would anticipate it and allow the impending rants to be a legit part of their answers.

Hm, why do I get the crazy feeling that this alludes to me somehow? Stop making me feel so insecure. I blame all of my problems with self-consciousness on YOU, KP. I'm willing to fail my gym class to skip swimming just because I can't ******* change my clothes in there with the other boys.
This is YOUR fault. You'd better take some ******* responsibility.
Anyhoo, when it comes to overrated by the general public, you can't beat Kiss...I've heard (from you, asshole) that they put on a great show, but god-damn, that doesn't excuse the way they embody ALL rock n' roll stereotypes. ALL rock n' roll stereotypes, KP! ALL of them!
But in terms of critical praise, they don't come more over-glorified than Creedence Clearwater Revival. Jesus Christ, I'm personally asking you with all the faith, devotion (and surrender) a human can possibly muster to DAMN JOHN FOGERTY TO THE DEEPEST DEPTHS OF HELL FOR THE REST OF ETERNITY.
MA2: **** you guys, Enya is awesome.
MA3:
...Okay so I only know like 3 Enya songs.
But this one is the best:

You seem pretty set in your ways, and I'd probably need to know the ones you hated the most beforehand before I could really offer up anything. Yano the deel.

Hello KP :)
On the subject of Genesis, I have 3 Phil Collins era songs, and that's all I want of the band as a whole!
Rush
can't get past the vocals, and not really impressed by the music.
Blue Oyster Cult
I tried - I listened to so much - but nothing in the music or lyrics I could connect to.
Bruce Springsteen
sorry, I just don't get what is so great.

@ kls81:
I know several people hold similar views on Fleetwood Mac {"they're a backing band for Stevie Nicks"}, but maybe you'd like the 1967-1971 Peter Green / Danny Kirwan era, or the 1971-1974 Bob Welch era...? Never rule on FM until you've tried all three!

Bob Dylan... can't stand his tuneless whining... sure, there's always a rudimentary melody but that over bland acoustic just doesn't cut it for me. His lyrics are either bland or oblique too, there are clever passages by him like in "Ballad of a Thin Man" but not enough.
Bruce, Eagles, Queen... I've made this list before. Zep, Floyd and Opeth are ones I used to like but no longer do, except on rare occasions.
MQ2: ABBA, although they aren't so reviled now. Maybe Katy Perry.
MQ3: I'll go with this, check that horn section hook (!): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tWbLkXhGEmo
BQ:
Watcher of the Skies
Firth of Fifth
The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway
The Carpet Crawlers
Dance On a Volcano
They aren't for everyone, people might think they are too softy but they have some rocking passages, and a subtlety that is sometimes lacking in say, Yes.

I have to agree with some of your post, I cannot stand the Rolling Stones. Just horrible, horrible music that makes me writhe in pain while covering my ears.
Also cannot stand Bare Naked Ladies, Hootie and the Blowfish, and my #1 most hated singer - Taylor Swift. If I have to hear her voice again I think I might go crazy. She's terrible and every song sounds the same. She's so popular and I can't figure out why. I love country music, but she makes me hate turning on the radio because I know I'll hear one of her crappy, sing along, pop bs hits. Her sound is bland, not unique in any way at all, her look is awful (so sick of her hair and her clothing choices are perfectly plain), she can't dance, and I frankly think she is an idiot (as in not educated or slightly dumb).
Also a while back she was in a photo, smiling next to a man with a swastika tattoo, and appeared to be comfortable with the situation. This makes me think she is either racist or openly okay with people that are, and that's just not cool.

I'm not gonna try to convince you to listen to Genesis.
Frankly, it depends who does the praising. If we went by what people at Yahoo Answers think, then Queen would be my first choice. But the rest of the world doesn't think like Yahoo Answers does, so Queen has not been especially praised in the rock press historically. Van Halen is runnerup.
If I pick one the rock press likes, but I don't see what the fuss is about, maybe Morrissey. I never really had a lot of use for solo Van Morrison either, to tell ya the truth, although I like Them, and some of his early solo stuff.
I used to like a lot of critically reviled bands. Black Sabbath was among them, back when they still made albums with Ozzy. Uriah Heep is another. There's not a lot of recent bands that the critics hate and I love, however. Rock criticism has changed a lot, and so has music.

For me its probably Dream Theater, which is pretty strange because I enjoy prog and like many bands who cite them as an influence, but its just LaBrie's vocals that turn me off. If they had a different vocalist I am sure I would enjoy them so much more, as I really admire their musical ability. LaBrie's vocals just dont suit metal imo, he'd be better off in a prog rock band. Portnoy and Petrucci are among the best musicians in metal in recent times, but LaBrie is a poor vocalist and I never understood why people see Dream Theater as a top prog band when I dont even think they're the best American prog metal band, that would be Tool. If Maynard was Dream Theater's vocalist that would be one hell of a band.
Images and Words, Awake, Metropolis and SDoIT are 4 of their albums that I do occasionally listen to because of the musical talent displayed, but other than that I would much rather listen to Opeth, Edge of Sanity, Enslaved etc when it comes to prog metal

I've always thought Metallica gets a bit more hype than it deserves. I can't put my finger on what I don't like, I just think it's unimpressive. I also think that Sting is rather boring; his music just doesn't make me feel anything. As far as Genisis, I think most of their music sounds the same... I enjoy listening to Marilyn Manson, Manson is a lyrical genius and Twiggy just adds something amazing to their music. No matter how controversial they are, I adore them. My current favorite songs are 'Devour', 'Into The Fire', 'Get Your Gunn', 'Minute of Decay', and 'Four Rusted Horses' (they change depending on my mood). Honestly, there's not a single song of theirs I've heard that I don't like. I'd link, but I'm on my phone :(

Radiohead, by-far. Just never found their material appealing. Same with Animal Collective. All the hipsters praise both bands like they're the second coming of Jesus, but really, it doesn't mix with me well.
MQ2: Several bands, Avenged Sevenfold, Disturbed, Linkin Park, Green Day (if their old stuff never existed and they were based on their new stuff)
MQ3: Avenged Sevenfold - Beast and the Harlot, Disturbed - Indestructible, Linkin Park - In the End, Green Day - Platypus (I Hate You)
BQ: Um, I never really explored Genesis...can't help you there., srry

I could never get into these bands.
Radiohead
Procol Harum
The Beatles
Queen
R.E.M
Rush
and I do like Led Zeppelin, but some of their songs are so long and dragged out to me.
MQ2: Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga are definetley two of the most controversial ones I like.

Slayer would be just too easy, so instead, I'll say Helloween, pre-Deris
I see so many people saying how Andi Deris is a crappy vocalist, and how Kiske was so amazing, and Keeper of the Seven Keys Part II is the single best power metal album in existence. So far as I hear, Kiske sounds like a mediocre, cookie-cutter PM vocalist (granted, one of the first, but still...). however, Deris sounds like Marco Hietala or Tobias Sammet to me. Not only that, Helloween's instrumentals started getting heavier and more powerful once he joined.
