Hayao Miyazaki films are great, they're the first type of anime I watched. Spirited Away, Whisper of the Heart, Howls Moving Castle and The Cats Return are all very good.

I also reccommend Gakuen Alice, but please read the manga! I watched the anime first and then read the manga, and realized just how much the anime killed the story line. The manga is just way better, okay?!

well these two are kinda old but they are still animes that make ma laugh and smile every time I watch them Yu Yu hakusho and Samurai X. if you want a shoujo that is funny is Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge(wallflower) the main character is male and a female and it is super funny really and the drawings of the 4 main characters(the boys) are bishounen and the girls animation is preety good to(sometimes), also if you want try and watch ouran high school host club...the main character is a girl..but is in disguise as a boy so it is very funny and cut plus animation is good too(tamaki)
