What reading program would you recommend for babies?

It all depends on the child. My first one loved to listen to me read anything to her, my favorite was Dr. Suess because it was rhyming. She would bring me 10 books at a time to read to her. She was an avid reader as she grew up.

Second child would not sit still for one page and when she was in school had a lot of trouble concentrating on reading.

When they are small you just sit and read what you like to read to them, have them write the letters when they are old enough to hold a pencil.

Do the same with your child as you were taught, it seems to have worked well...

I think its great that you are wanting to raise a reader.... so its only natural to look at all your options. pay no mind the crass remarks. but most are right, the best thing you can do is hold them and look at pictures together, while you read. its never too young to start. over time you have a child highly interested in reading. My mother read me stories every night from as early as I can remember. I dont know if it was her doing that or if it is just me, but I LOVE to read. the learning programs on TV have been proven to be far less effective than you doing it. If you insist on doing it. sit there with her and explain what she is watching. which may seem pointless when they can not read or talk yet, but its far from pointless to describe things to them. they catch on eventually.

If you do decide to order it, make sure you actually use the website from the TV ad and not one you find on google-- I googled it and happened to run right into the scam website, and I thought it was legit for a minute. That being said, I would worry about it teaching more by memorization than by phoenetics, so I'm not sure if I would be comfortable using it. I wish I knew someone who had tried it, I'd love to know if it worked, too.

Reading programs are a scam. Spending time with your child reading them books and talking to them will do the same thing.

Uh, reading to your child daily? These things such as "Your Baby Can Read" are a waste of money. You teach by pointing to words, sounding things out, etc.

i started my daughter on the Your baby can read program at 6 months old. i love it bc a huge part of the program is sitting down with your baby and teaching them with flash card. i also use the cardboard baby books with huge bright pictures and a few words. we sit down every day and read stories to each other pointing out all of the pictures and words in the books. i use the your baby can read dvd's when i have a bit of house cleaning to do and need my daughter to be good and let me clean. i put her in her activity seat and turn it on. im not sure if it is her and i reading books that is working or the program but she is a very smart little girl.

A library card and about an hour a day.

EDIT: I can't believe you claim to be a teacher and you just gave all of us a thumbs down for NOT recommending a program to teach your child to read. YOU as the PARENT teach your child to read. Not some off-the-shelf scam. If you are a teacher then I feel sorry for your students and your future child.
