I have the ambition, but I lack the will. What's wrong?

I've set goals for myself, they are quite high; however, they are achievable. Yet the problem is, I simply lack the will to really put myself into working towards this goal. What can I do?

Update:

@Barla Although that did not answer my question, that was funny. Thanks for the smile.

Update 2:

I don't think I can, I know I can. There is just so much work, it is so much easier to not bother. At the same time, I really want to achieve that goal. It's such a long way to go.

You are lazy and/or lack patience.

Ambition is the desire and will to achieve that desire. Since you lack the will, you lack the ambition.

Set smaller goals. If you lack the will to achieve the goals set, set them smaller because you set them to large. "easier to not bother" is the sign your goals are to big. Put the major goal on the wall and then medium goals below it. Then break down the medium goals even further to minor goals. Accomplish those and focus on them, try not to focus on the major goal. If you need to, set a 4th level to micro goals. here is where the patience comes in, you learn patience when it is observed or practiced. Observation is only taught to you as a child, since you are past that stage, you got to practice it instead. Going from micro goal to micro goal will teach you that. Looking back, you will begin to wonder, why did I think that was so hard and soon you will be jumping from minor goal to minor goal. Try not to think about it though, thinking about it increases relative time. Learning patience is a wonderful thing because once you have it, you almost never lose it and you can expand it to other areas. Like finding a dollar that ends up in your pocket every time you wake up.

If this sounds like too much work..then your lazy. Lazy is conquered the same way, through observation of hard work or practicing hard work. Since (once again) you are past the observation stage of learning hard work as a child, you got to practice.

Of course, you left out many other factors and these are the only 2 i can see. Social, political, intellectual, physical and other factors may also exist.

Good luck, your the captain of your ship.

  • Sometimes some potentially talented people forget that a starting point looks smaller for greater struggle, just to risk a defeat from the ego when you know that others made it truly well..

It is discouraging at times..But the process along the way to the best achievements only started from the tiniest point. It will expand later on through focusing well enough to the work.

    I wish you the best..!!

    From a stranger who tries..:))

Every step you make along the way has its significance,

In order to achieve a goal...Never to think much on how long the way it could be.

But to think of how you could love and joy the adventure of your own talent or capability!

    While exploring that path..

Have to will it first in your mind..

Using will power to achieve your goals is going to feel like hell. You have to want to do it like you want to buy [insert your favorite band] concert tickets. It's got to inspire you enough that the smallest mundane parts of it fill you with a sense of meaning.

I suspect just from my own experiences that most people think that they have a goal that serves them when it really only gives the appearance of serving you. For example I thought I wanted to become a firefighter, and then learned what that actually meant in terms of what I would do, how it works and it's actual value (which was not enough for me).

Having high goals is great so long as they actually serve your your highest values.

Develop some ambition and have a little more confidence in yourself. If you think you can or you think you can't, you are right.
